Great looking set. My '24 is my favorite face shaving SE. The OCMM is best for head shaves and all around, for me.
Love that razor! I wish I had a nice case like that for mine. Even though I don't travel much.

That's one of the razors I bought today. The guy I bought it from is a LOSER. I've bought a few razors from him and he seems to know his stuff pretty well. Plus he lives 15 miles up the Mississippi from me.. He called it an Eveready Flip Top.... 1924 sounds good to me too...lol Paid $10.60 w/shipping...

I wonder when they actually stopped making them, maybe in 1930?

Someone, and I can't remember where, posted a picture of one in a set with the NRA stamp on the box. That puts it around 1933-1934. We know ER came out with their version of the 1912 in 1930 but I don't know if anyone really knows when they stopped actually making the 1924 for sure.

SE's are hit and miss for me, but I had 4 days of heavy growth and decided to whip out the 1924. Loaded it with a fresh Gem, whipped up a frankenubeerlather. This is 3 samples of Mikes smashed into an Old Spice mug, topped with a small drop of Dr. Harris Windsor cream.
Have to say....BBS, not a single weeper. Aggressive, yes. But keeping the head almost flat against my face, was able to experience one of the best shaves ever.
I will be turning the SE direction more than usual, usually on the weekends when I have the time to go slow.

Nice to hear the '24 rocked for you Batman. It's a great razor! I also like the inventive way you make FUL (frankenuberlater). Good stuff!

Well I just got my first shave with an Ever Ready 1924, so I felt like I had to check-in...As a few of you know around here, I've been a big fan of JB de Mesquita and now I've finally gotten to try the design he worked on for 20 years... It absolutely knocked me out...I hadn't shave for 3 days... I took a steaming hot shower...the Arko was its usual lather bomb...I put a new blade in the '24 and was surprised how easy it was to load. Must be a case of YMMV, but it was crazy easy and that backward flip top is flat cool. Then my first stroke was from my left sideburn down to past my jaw line. Then I inspected the path I had just made in the lather and it was pure BBS...The rest of the shave was equally amazing. Also I didn't realize til the shave was over that; like SD; I never notice it retaining water...Hmm, maybe it's just the way I rinse my razors... As Marc said, this razor lets you feel the blades edge at all times. I love that...It makes it so easy the get areas like around the nose...Talk about 'Feed Back' feeling that blade edge is the ultimate feed-back....And then there is also the fact that this is the loudest razor ever...scores another 'I love that'... I really wasn't expecting to be so completely knocked out by this rascal, but it's performance was overwhelming...This one also matches or exceeds my Str8s and Shavettes for closeness...And to be displaying so much whisker knock down prowess, she also left my skin without a hint of burn, even on my throat; a confirmed razor burn problem area...I'm afraid I couldn't find anything not to love about this razor.....If I did have to drum up something, it could only be that she's such a young razor...There's something about a 100 year old razor thats super appealing to me, and this ones like, made after WWI...Shame.....Ahhh, but JB de Mesquita did do the original design for what would become the ER 1924 in 1909 so maybe that will get the '24 a reprieve on this point...

What handle do you like better; the short or the long?

I find myself reaching for the ER '24 more than any other SE razor any more for exactly all the reasons stated by birdlives.

What handle do you like better; the short or the long? I prefer the long one...I tried the short one for a few strokes and it still shaved great, but with that longer one it's heaven... So from now on I'm just using the long one, and if I need to use the short one, like if I need to drop that travel kit in my vest pocket for an out of town gig, I'll be happy to have that option...You were so hip to include that longer handle, that was really thinking; my friend; and it just works great! BTW, today I shaved the left side of my face with the '24 and the right side with the '14...ER Shave-Off...lol... Keep in mind, I haven't really had time to bond with either of these razors so it's pretty much in 1st impression territory... Man, that '14 is a Wild Child, lol, so loud and the whole head vibrates like crazy...definitely a barrel of fun... But I would need to get used to the 'LLC' in order to draw on it's strengths I'm sure, but at this stage of the game, the '24 is just so easy to get such great results...It shaves by itself...Kind of like what Marc said about the OCMM, but it really applys to this '24....When you employ decisive and overwhelming force in order to achieve a rapid result....and '24 is unquestionably the smoothest operater I've seen at achieving this result....So after the 1st pass the left side was BBS and the right side was close, but I finished the whole shave with the '24... By all means please don't get me wrong...this '14 knocked me out and is more fun than a barrel of monkeys...but that '24 is just mind-boggling in it's ability to gets such great results and make it all look so easy.... Seems like JB deMesquita's baby, has changed the scene and raised the bar in my shave-cave... Read more: theoriginalsafetytoo.proboards.com/thread/160/pick?page=3#ixzz2m3K2rkbj

One thing I'd like to add....and this is another testament to the valve of our scene here at TOST...I've experienced NO blade loading problems, nor have I had any problems with the blade coming out when I open the ER'24 when it's loaded....But I have already read Tom's accounts of ricocheting blades, and I've internalized Themba's advice on loading a blade in one of these, not to mention ShadowsDad/Brian's excellent review right here starting this thread; many moons ago....Long before I had the pleasure of shaving with one....All this expert advice cannot be discounted, and I know has definitely enriched this whole experience for me.... THANKS TOST !! My experience with this lovely has now been filled with nothing but ...dare I say it....near Perfect Shaves...

It appears you've been smitten by the 1924 bad! I wish I could like the '24 that much, but it just doesn't work for me all that well. I get so much better results with it's kinfolk, the Streamline and the 1914.
