I couldn't resist Picked this guy up today... It's an ER'14 OC w/wall attachment. It's in okay condition, but the first OC I've come across!

In the UK, we'd call that a "bathroom set". Good catch! Nice example.

What are those metal blobs?

What are those metal blobs? I think they would be the equivalent of these... Im guessing the blobs are a repair job. Fortunately, they work well, but are a bit unsightly. They are essential in this OC razor because of the blade stops are knobs where the blade rests or have been worn down.

The heads are definitely from a different year. I observed the following, 1) The blade stops originate in different areas 2) the writing on the back is a different font 3) "Made in USA" absent from older (I'm guessing older) 4) "American Safety Razor Co. Inc" vs "American Safety Razor Corp." The question still remains, Was this originally an open comb or was it manipulated into this condition? I'm staring at the combs and the look a bit shaved down, so maybe someone did this. Attachments:

I shaved with it this morning and it gave me the best shave I've ever had with an SE (it isn't saying much because I've shaved maybe 10 times with an SE!). I haven't used a regular '14 yet, so I'll have to compare the shaves when I do. Regardless, this OC or modified OC is a definite keeper.

Not another rare-as-hens-teeth OC SE for me to chace! I'm running out of money and energy." (more rapidly on the former, less so on the latter) Can someone confirm, ER did put out an OC version of the 1914?!

I am calling modified razor. I have never heard of a OC 14. The soldier blobs would seem to confirm it was worked on. Funny I did not reply to this one at the time!

I was thinking the same thing, especially with the solder blobs. Though, someone did seem to trim out the combs with a bit of care. Not bent or tag-ends on the teeth.
Case closed, I can sleep easier tonight...

Could the solder blobs be serving as a permanent shim?

Could the solder blobs be serving as a permanent shim? I suspect they were to help hold the blade in tight. Just a guess. I do not know what was going on when this was posted. It is surprising it did not get more attention.
