Just revisited the Streamline and I like it a lot more than on first impressions. Still gave me a small bit of neck irritation so perhaps an adjustment of technique is in order, but I can't deny this is a lovely razor... and it's so heavy. Also the head is very "space age" isn't it? That kind of futuristic, ancient Egyptian, electricity, Flash Gordon style... if you know what I mean

We do ... yes, it's retro-modern, the promise of the space age viewed from beyond.

Just used Streamline after being under the weather for a few days, when I missed shaves and had poor shaves too. My beard today very patchy with heavy regrowth on lower neck and Adams Apple. With careful use of the Streamline, I was able to eliminate all this , and overall had a really close and comfortable shave. It is a shame that more are not able to use this razor, due to scarcity & price, IMHO it really is one of the best.

And after a discussion with you Mike about shimming it's dawned on me that the differences between the 30s and 50s Streamline are to take into account the different characteristics of the different pre- and post-Micromatic blades.
I'd imagine that a 30s Streamline with a thick spined (or shimmed) blade shaves almost identically to a 50s Streamline with the thinner spined modern blade.
Currently I only have a 50s model, but if anyone has both then maybe they could check this out...

Seem to be a lot of these around at the moment, singles and stropper sets.
Did anyone get the ER model, with the packing which marketed it as a Jewel !

Yeah, there's the Jewel and Ambassador sets. Mine is in a purple lined metal case. I think that's a Jewel ... or is it an Ambassador?

Yes all of a sudden there's Streamlines everywhere (and the price is dropping rapidly too). This is such a gorgeous razor, perhaps it will become more accessible now.

Hi Marcus, Not sure about the price drop, perhaps a few more being auctioned rather than buy me now ! Last one I saw went For £71.

That was a metal box set I think, but the white clamshells are auctioning for <£50, which seems sensible... There are surely a lot of Streamlines about, but they were "talked up" online... Probably because they're so excellent eh?

The clam shell single is up to £71 !! Sell! Sell! Sell! Interesting that the Streamline as we know it ,as sold in the metal box recently had packaging which identified as a Jewel !! So maybe I now have a Jewel Set in my collection ?

Yes - I used to think that all the metal box sets were Jewels, and the 50's sets were Ambassadors whether they were GEMs or Ever Readys. It amazes me that information from the last 100 years like this is lost to us - if only there were some ASR salesmen from the 30's, 40's and 50's we could talk to, or an exec with a full selection of catalogues. And Streamline/Jewel/Ambassador prices are fluctuating then, I saw a couple of white clamshell sets go for under £50 in the past month... maybe just talking about them is pushing the price back up...
