Now that I have a Rolls, Darwin Universal, Everite, Kronenberg 101, Kampfe and a Rapide, I've noticed how different the steel is on each. The Rolls and Darwin are typical Sheffield steel, the Everite and Kronenberg are typical Solingen, the Kampfe feels very similar to Torrey steel and the Rapide feels more Swedish than German. I'm still formulating a plan of attack as far as honing but started by staying true to my approach on these steels on straight razors, Sheffield steel on coticules, Solingen steel on jnats etc.

This approach makes a lot of sense - in my experience the Darwin steel requires a gentle touch and the Rolls are a bit more sturdy but still that softer Sheffield steel we love so much

... which reminds me ... Robin? ROBIN!!! Over the last few months, I've consolidated just exactly what it is that I like about SE shaving. It's the 1912 and those razors that surround it - GEMs, Ever Ready, Star, etc. They all float my boat and I love shaving with them. I've culled all manner of other razors in my collection (still just floating under 200, now over 100 ASR type) but ones which I have been picking up are all those lovely French wedge holders: Le Grelot, L'Essor, Le Coq, etc. I have two good wedges. I call them wedges, but they are of course hollow ground ... but if it looks like a wedge and quacks like a wedge, it's a wedge. I enjoy shaving with them. Yes, your plan of maintaining these blades as you would the respective straights is sound. As is happens, all I have are Welsh slate (8-10K, 10-12K & 12K plus) and synthetic kitchen knife type stones (325, 1000, 4000 & 8000). I've honed all my straights on these - Sheffield, Solingen, Eskilstuna, even the mighty Chinese Gord Dorrar. I don't think I'd notice a difference. GEM, wedge, piece of glass, all feels the same to me

Your current setup is more than adequate to hone and maintain your edges.

What is a hoe razor blade? One that has shaved the faces of many men?
