So this week I traveled and had the One Blade Core as my razor. I've used it all week long. After "cracking the code" on this razor, I have been extremely pleased with it.
It is, without exception, MY FAVORITE RAZOR
After I did four shaves on the blade, I put in another blade. One each shave, I turn the blade over. In other words each side gets used twice. I had no issues this time. The blade seemed almost as sharp as shave one for shave, two, three and four. What absolutely amazes me about this razor is that I have zero irritation and am able to get a very close shave. My best and closest shave with it came with the Duke Cannon shaving cream which does not lather and only gives you slickness. That makes sense as cream with a lot of cushion is going to make it harder for the blade to contact your skin or shave as close.
I'm able to go WTG, ATG, XTG or any direction I please and have no issues. I've not even been able to make the bottom of my neck sore, which is where the hair grows upward and very close to the skin. I get my best result there doing a 1/2 XTG 1/2 ATG stroke as the first pass and then ATG as a final pass.
I've tried other formats and like SE the best and I've used some that have given very close shaves and very comfortable shaves, but none of them have been as consistently comfortable as the OneBlade has. In the past a razor I get a DFS with one day can leave me a bit tender on another day. Not so with the core, I've not been able to get anything but a nice feel post shave.
I'm done looking for my favorite razor. It's been found. Though I did decide to order up a refurbished Hybrid to have the steel head. I've changed my tune, eaten crow and am duly impressed.
I'll still use my other Gem's and Injectors, but the OneBlade is going to get the bulk of the duty due to the results it produces.
I am going to track blade use on this for awhile, seeing if I can go beyond 4. Stopped at four on the last blade simply because I was flying out that day and didn't want to leave a blade in the razor, it may have had more shaves in it, I dunno.
One shave from a blade of this cost is really unacceptable fro me, but two shaves from a blade for me is acceptable, though not optimal. If I can get 4 shaves a blade as I just did that would be great. I'm not trying to be the guy that only spends 8 bucks a year to shave. I think one blade per shave is really too expensive, on the other hand I own two soaps that were $25 a pop, so it's not exactly like I'm shaving on the cheap, so why should blade cost matter that much IF the shave I get is exceptional? I think it shouldn't.
