Well, I picked up my first Shick injector razor yesterday at an antique store for $8. Cleaned it up and got it ready for this morning. I put a Ted Pella PTFE injector blade in it, mixed up some uber-lather and had at it.
My first impression was that it's very intuitive and much like a cartridge razor in feel. I liked that part. Unfortunately the shave was not very close at all. As a matter of fact after 3 passes I was still quite stubbly.
I know from all my reading that you guys greatly prefer the Schick "China" blades and will try and find some locally today. I've also read that perhaps I jacked up the edge when I loaded it and if I can't find a "china Schick" today will try to carefully load another Ted Pella tomorrow and see if that makes a difference.
This razor appears to be a "G-1 coded" injector (checked the patent info and it has a seam on the handle). Is this an excessively gentle injector or do they all shave this way? I'm hoping to figure it out, but if this is as good as it gets, I'm outta here on the injectors.
Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
John

I'm betting your angle was off just a bit. I really like the injectors, but find they have a pretty small window of angles that actually cut. This angle is generally intuitive, but it's not a given. Also, the Pella blades are good & typically for me the 2-3 shave & on are better than the first one or two.

Don't give up on them yet, with the right blade I can get results pretty close to what I get with the SE's. And the G types are plenty aggressive enough to get the job done.

John, the traveling razor I just finished using was an adjustable Schick. I don't know squat about Injectors, but I do know that this razor should do what you want if any will.
I started out using it on "4" , then "6" for a day or 2, then "8" for 2 days. All settings gave me great shaves, The higher settings gave them no more easily than setting 4 but the BBS lasted longer. But it isn't an OCMM or an EverReady '29 IMO.

I am going to buy into the angle thing also. I have 4 different models and they all give DFS's. Don't give up. They will come around for you with some use I bet.

What them other doods said. : )
I don't use Schicks too often as they don't have enough panache for me!! But, they do give darn good shaves. I think if you stick with it you will find excellent shaves just around the corner.

I was just ckecking this old post out....and I want to know about this alleged panache deficiency..... I hear that all the time...I think Schick injectors are a blast....My Dad was issued one during WWII....That right there I think should give them all the romance they need.... Just because they are easy shouldn't remove them from the 'providing the full shaving pleasure experience' catagory...lol They look modern....but these guys have payed their dues...lets hear it for the genius of Col. Schick....and yes the good Col. himself did get the first patent for the injector, aswell as the repeater... And congratulations to all who are enjoying a great, state of the art, modern shaving instrument like the Schick Injector...And 'johna2231' how has that 'Injector RAD' worked out for ya....

Well Sir,
My Injector RAD is pretty well under control. I started off with what I believe is a G1. Next I wanted to get a really pretty Schick Adjustable and picked one up that's nearly mint for $20 in a small lot on the bay. Included in this lot was another G1 (I think) style head only. I have plans for this baby. The plating is in very good shape on it and I plan on cutting a piece of mule deer antler for a handle and shaping it a bit.
While I primarily shave with straights, I use my SE's almost as much and lately have been doing a "hybrid" shave with a pass or two of the straight and finishing up with the Injector or SE.
Of interesting note: I'm a head shaver and when I tried head shaving with the Injector with a brand new Chinese Schick blade it whooped me like a red headed step child. As a matter of fact, I WAS red headed when I got done -- with blood! LOL. Wow! I haven't tried again with a less sharp blade since it was so bad. But, I love how the shallow profile of this razor allows me to shave behind the ears with such ease.
All in all. RAD ain't bad, this razor rocks!!

John Man....we need a picture of the custon antler handle Schick at the Injector party.....as soon as you do it...in the meantime give us a before shot..... Oh ....and could you shave your head again with the injector and this time take photos ...and post on the 'Injector party' thread...that would be great...'Red headed step child'....whew lol...That sounds like a Custom title waiting to happen...
