Very cool,OS. Nice video. I got my first Gem Jr. lather catcher (1907) in a trade with wchnu (Fuzzy) on April 7 or last year. It came with seven original Gem Junior blades that I had sharpened by twhite . I have been using them ever since. It has been a year. I fell in love with the lather catchers. Be careful. They are addictive. I recently got a print ad for it that was in a 1907 publication. jrshaving.blogspot.com/2017/04/gem-jr-lather-catcher.htmlI have since picked up a Henckels Safety Razor and a Hiljestrand Safety Razor both of which are lather catchers and wedge razors. The Gem Jr. will also take wedge blades. Wedge blades are really cool. Like I said. Be careful. They are addictive.

The Pal blades are very good. I also recommend the CVS blades. They are carbon steel. Just be sure to dry them off after each use. They are great blades, too.

I've tried the cvs blades, and to be honest the PAL blades honestly feel sharper to me. Maybe it's just the razor, but the pal seems to do better. I'll try the cvs blade in the lather catcher next.

Good video!
Have you tried the GEM SS ptfe blades? They are best bought in bulk but CVS has them for just a test (I think I'm wrong on this; I don't think it's CVS but Walgreens). If you need a few PM me an address. If anything they are too sharp straight out of the cardboard wrapper. But they should be fine fresh out of the wrapper and in the Jr Bar.

@shadowsdad are those the blades that are sold at cvs? The only ones I can find just say CVS brand in a blueish green package. These are the ones I'm talking about. Are they the same thing you are talking about?

I am so glad you liked it. I hope you could tell by my reaction in the video! Also, on our Sunday "date night" Swmbo noticed that I was still relatively clean shaven. Course nothing short if a feather makes it past about 4 hours until the stubble comes back, but she said it still looked decent. I am forever grateful.

I find the first shave harsh, then the 2ND better and the 3rd depends on the razor. Maybe I've just gotten a bad batch, but for me they just don't seem that sharp. For instance on my shave with the PAL blades, it mowed right through the stubble of a day and a half -to two day growth. If I was using the CVS blade, anything past its 2nd shave and there is tugging and pulling galore. However, to be fair, I will try the pal blade in the GEM jr, and the 1912 to double check and vice versa.

I do like the Pal blades very much, but supply of them seems to be drying up. Have a few tucks to work thru, fortunately, but after that its all CVS and Gem SS.
As long as you're not using the Korean-made Dorco blades you should get a mighty fine result with whatever you go with. Just be vigilant of angle (super shallow, against face) and pressure.

I can still get the PAL blades. I have also seen someone here that used a SE Feather blade in their SE razor. I think it was Jamie but not for sure.

That was a great looking shave. The lather catcher can easily become an addiction. The CVS blades work great for me I can not get the PAL blades local any more. I can pick up Treets though. PALs will always be a favorite though.

O'S', blades don't get sharper the more they are used, they get more dull. Lots of folks have experienced what you have with the SS ptfe blades. I deliberately put a fresh one into a milder razor for the first few shaves. After that it goes into my more favored aggressive razors for the duration of their life. I can easily get 20 shaves from one and 30 or more isn't unheard of (for me). I've read of some folks who hand strop a fresh blade to do in seconds what takes me few shaves to get done.
But if you like other blades that's OK. Not everyone likes the same things. We have a saying,"Your mileage may vary.". Basically, what works for me might not work for you and that's OK.
BTW, I think CVS has carbon steel blades (maybe things have changed and they now carry SS?). But I could be wrong about that. I'm pretty sure Walgreens has the GEM SS ptfe blades. It's been so long since I bought consumer packs of blades and I just don't remember clearly. But you'll know what you have just by looking at the blade. Look at the spine of the blade. Gem blades will have "stainless" printed on them. Don't quote me on this since it's been so long since I even held a carbon steel blade, but I think their spines are imprinted with 09 or some such. If CVS has carbon steel blades you might have gotten old ones with micro corrosion on the edge. That happens in the package just by existing in humidity, given enough time.
I meant to write after watching the video, that one of the reasons I like GEM type SE razors is due to the sound. That came through loud and clear in the video. It's also why I have no SE razors that are silent.

I should have stated they get smoother not sharper.... Pain Pills and all. I'm going to go with the fact that I may have gotten a bad batch. I bought a fresh pack of the CVS blades. I will be using it again tomorrow. I think I have been bitten by the lather catcher bug, and I don't mind one bit. Any one have a good source for the PAL or treet blades? I checked amazon and they have some but I'm still not sure they are shaving blades, not paint scraper blades. Wish I could get em local, but that ain't happening.
