Surrey was the company that later became Van der Hagen and they made some very good soap that was tallow based. They sold it in sets that had a mug with the picture of an old car and a boar brush. I have a couple of the brushes and they are actually pretty good. The handles are identical to the current VDH brushes but they don't shed and seem to be of better quality. I highly recommend buying the soap if you ever run across any. I've managed to acquire these three pucks, the latest one is the boxed puck in the last pictures that I just got a couple days ago. Anyone else use Surrey? Mug, brush and soap set. Single puck that was sealed in cellophane that I grated and am currently using. It looks different than the other two, I'm guessing it's a bit newer. Latest one. With a $.37 price tag I'm guessing maybe from the 70's?

Hats off to you HoosierTrooper! Another wonderful soap! I heretofore shall think of you as: Ladies and Gentleman, (suitable pause) introducing His Royal SudsinessKarma kick for you! No, seriously, you have been sharing with photos and narratives on a bunch of kick ass soaps for quite some time now. I am realizing as it unfolds that you truly are, His Royal Sudsiness! I feel I have to jump in and commend your ability for digging up these wonderful older soaps. You really do enjoy the products and it is great to see you pursue these barberiana americana with the zeal of a true believer! Thanks for sharing. I enjoy your soap posts thoroughly!! edit: And no, I haven't seen these up in Canada - or ever - but I love the VDH Deluxe pucks. (Or as someone might say in Canada, Deluxe Puckos, me Buckos!) .

I have one puck of this that I use now and then. I picked it up wayy in the back of an old store. The set was missing the brush but the soap and mug were there. I will have to get a picture of it. It does shave good. I think I will take it for a spin with a VDH boar early in the morning.
