Had a great shave this morning with the MicroMatic. This is one fantastic razor, and should be in your arsenal! I will one day have a Vie-Long brush, but until then the Cremo brand does just fine!
Thanks for watching, and have nothing but great shaves!

That is a very handy resource. Didn't know it existed. It seems as though I have mentioned skin stretching before, but even if I didn't I do believe it is fairly obvious that my free hand stretches the skin. Take for example the part where I shave my neck, you can clearly see the free hand stretching the skin over my Adams Apple, as well as around the mouth for the mustache area. Maybe, someone should do a video about the different techniques for shaving, prep, razor techniques, and after the shave prep. This is a great idea, and I'm glad you brought it to my attention. I do need to make a point to stress this more often. I will add this video idea to the que! Thanks --OS

Nice video. I too fall into the trap of not explaining the basics enough. Great reminder that in a video we should remember that newer guys look for instructions and help with problems. Thanks for the reminder!

Thanks for the reminder! After we get our technique down, it's all muscle memory, it's so second nature that we do things that we don't even realize we are doing.

Nice shave ! I had a three day stubble mowed down with a "Micromatic" with a blade on its 10+ a few shaves. How many shaves did the old blade give before it died in the video.

I think it was either 5 or 6. I have so many of them laying around that I forget sometimes. It was a pal blade and while they are smooth, they don't last long for me. What blade did yuo use for the 10+ shaves?

Great video OS!!! I've got a Micromatic (as well as the Clog-Pruf and Flying Wing versions) -- the "original" Micromatic is my favorite SE razor so far. I find it to be both efficient and smooth. A few observations: - I thought I was the only one to drink coffee and shave at the same time, although you took it to the next level by matching the color of your mug with your t-shirt.
- I also feel like I get a better shave with a few days growth. I usually shave every other day, but sometimes I'll extend it out, and the heavier growth seem to produce a slightly easier/better result.
- And lastly, I too have to get a close shave by the corners of the mouth, if I miss a hair, or it doesn't get cut down short, I ended up playing with it with my tongue and it irritates me all day...plus I look like an idiot while I'm doing it.
As for the number of shaves per blade. I'm about to put my 12th shave on my Gem PTFE. The last shave felt almost imperceptibly tuggy, so I'm going to start it on it's 12th and see how it goes....I may be switching it out during the shave as well.

Flintstone I have the Williams on tap for tomorrow's shave. I'll show you how I do it. May work for you, may not, but I'll show you how I make it work. The one that I learned from is Fuzzy. So, watch his Williams Wednesday video, he has tons of tips.

The gist, from what I can tell, is not to get caught up looking for a butter-cream lather. It may make a thin lather, but the slickness will be there. Oh, and always bloom it for at least an hour....just kidding !!!!

I took out my Ever-Ready 1924 and just finished my 18th shave with a Gem PTFE, still sharp and comfortable. I can't seem to get a carbon steel blade past 5 or 6 shaves.

I will be buying quite a few of the GEM blades. I like the Treet ones as well. They are smoother, to me than the GEM, but not quite as sharp.

I have to admit that my Gem PTFE died on the 12th shave -- actually, I think it died on the 11th shave and I should've dropped in a fresh blade mid-shave, but thought I'd "power-through"...not my smartest move.
Today I tried a Gem Carbon blade. I had heard they were smoother than the PTFE but the downside is they don't last as long, and they'll rust if you don't keep them dry. I wasn't worried about the drying-off part because I'm obsessive about post-shave maintenance on stuff like that; but the first shave with it in my Micromatic Clog-Pruf was not pleasant. It had me flashing back to my unmentionable days when I'd try a blade brand that just didn't work for me. I'm going to give it another go -- because that's just me -- and I've got one more of the same blade that I'm also willing to try and see how it does. So far, my favorite has been the Gem PTFEs -- both for comfort and longevity.

I will send you a 5 pack of Treet blades next Tuesday when I send the other stuff. I may see if I can find a pal blur star as well. If I can I'll send it as well. My ranking is Gem stainless, CVS brand (probably made in the same factory as Gen) Treet, then PAL. I have a couple of older "vintage" blades that I will try out on camera for review.
