We have a grocery store called "Brookshire Brothers" in a couple small towns around me. When I am out and about for work, inwilI stop in and buy every puck they have! Pay 1.39 for them, while I could get them cheaper online or in bulk, I like that I can have them that day, and the conversation that usually takes place when asked what they are. I am much the same. I pick up a cake or two when I get out of Baton Rouge into the country. I'm a small town guy living in a city these days, so when I get out to small towns it's a treat. Here in MN most mom and pops are closed even in the small towns. Dollar General is the new player in a lot of small towns here. I love it when I find a mom and pop grocery/drug/hardware store still going. I always stop if I have the time. Sometimes you can find some unique things and if I need something in general I often buy to support them. They can be a great source of NOS items. Growing up the nearest town of any size, population 4000 had three competing drugstores. One was a Rexall, two others were unaffiliated with any chain. They all carried cards, small gifts, toiletries, chocolates, etc. BUT, each one while having some stuff the same had a good variety of brands. In fact to this day, my shaving kit (dopp bag) came from one of them. It was a cheap nylon affair, is well over 30 years old and is as good as the day I bought it. Like many here, I suspect, I liked the days before the chain stores when each store carried whatever brand they wished or would special order something for you if they didn't. Flash forward to today, it's almost the same product selection at every store.

I would go back to that life quick if I could. Even with all the hard work on the farm.
