October 11th (almost October 12th) I recently found this Model 14A (1902'ish) Kampfe Bros Star without a handle; but as luck would have it I recently had the excellent fortune of getting one, a beautiful Ivorite (pre-bakelite plastic) that fits my GEMs (1912s all the way back to the Lather Catchers) and KB Stars. I ended up doing 2-passes and a heavy touch-up with no blood, no post-shave irritation and a smoothness that borders on BBS for 75% of my face. This isn't a daily shaver for me, but like most of us, I enjoy the history, the ingenuity of the design, the look and (of course) the shave these razors provide. The blade was a GEM SS PTFE (11), the cream was George F Trumpers Lime and the brush a Jayaruh (JR #270) synthetic.

Saturday OCtober 12 Continuing my shaves through Europe, today I'm using a surprise combination, for myself anyway. It's a L'Essor lather catcher/hoe razor with a GEM SS SE blade. I can't take credit for this idea and I'm sure it's not really original. I saw someone (I don't remember who) post on one of the forums that he combined a DE blade like this with a very similar LeCoq razor so I decided to try it and am I glad I did. Like most lather catchers, this razor takes wedge blades but all of mine are not shave ready and this razor has an adjustment method that allows for the secure use of a GEM type SE blade. Bowl/Scuttle - GP12 Soap - Le Pere Lucien Savon du Barbier (France) Brush - Simpson Duke 3 Manchurian Badger (Isle of Man) Blade - GEM SS SE (2) Razor - L'Essor (France) Post Shave - OSMA Pierre alum, Baum.BE A/S balm Shave rating 5 of 5 I did a 2 pass shave today, first pass was WTG and was DFS. The razor and blade combo was VERY smooth and I felt as if I couldn't put the razor in a position where the blade would cut me. No blade feel and very smooth. Second pass was XTG everywhere but on my neck area and I received a BBS shave. The Le Pere lathered very well and lubricated very well. I had no weepers and the alum was quiet except at my neck area. The Baum.BE was the best choice to satisfy my skin. Overall, a great shave. I'd prefer using my wedge blades with this and similar razors but this is a good alternative. Have a few more French and English razors that will be the razors for my next few shaves this weekend and next week. Happy OCtober and great shaves everyone.

Good shave today. Got a new toy to play with the Focus Dynamic SE razor. If you are not familiar with it, this one like the new RazoRock takes 1/2 and an unmentionable blade. For this razor they recommend snapping them in half rather than the half blades you can buy as the little curled tab helps secure the blade. It's kind of a neat system. Simple to load and use. The soap today was from Baume.be. It's very good. First time out, I used way too much. A sunflower seed in the shell sized dab is probably all one would need for as many passes as they cared to do. It't takes water well, you can get pretty much whatever consistency you want. I watered until I got thinner lather since this razor is said to prefer that as its blade gap is so small. The razor shaves well, like the OneBlade, it depends on you using the pivot to get the best shave. The best results come by pushing into your face enough to rock the pivot so the blade comes in contact with the razor. For areas that are tight and you can't activate the pivot on, you can tilt the razor until it comes into contact with the hair. It won't be quite as smooth as when used properly but I got on just fine. DFS and irritation free. Razor: Focus Dynamic 48 SE Blade: 1/2 of a Lord blade Soap: Baume.be cream Brush: Badger

I got to get a knot for mine. Beautiful. What size did you get? Thanks! It was given to me by Randy across the street . It fit perfectly in the hole though and has 2 1/4" of loft sticking out so I would say it was 2 1/2" long to start and about 1 1/8" wide at bottom.

Finally, I Am Clean, Smooth, and Refreshed Once More No picture today, so use your imagination. It has been ten days since my last shave. I am feeling really bad about not entering into Open Comb OCtober. With the wife's help, I assembled my modest equipment for today's shave. I chose: Barbasol Original Shave Cream, TOST LE Synthetic brush, (razor and blade removed to preserve the peace), and Cella After Shave. I applied cold water to my face with the brush. Then I squirted a bit of Barbasol onto the end of my brush and built a great lather on my 10-day-old beard. I had decided that I would go for a full goatee, today. I did the first pass, and this 114 year old razor with its open comb and sharp (deleted) blade reduced the significant areas with ease. I almost opted to call it a shave, but decided to lather up one more time and do a clean up pass ATG. Light easy strokes left me with a clean, close shave. I did a cold water rinse and finished off with Cella After Shave. I am looking fine and feeling fine right now. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed. jrshaving.blogspot.com/2019/10/finally-i-am-clean-smooth-and-refreshed.html
