There we go jayaruh a twofer for the folks. I like your method, Fuzzy. It is very straight forward and simple.

I have never modified a despined Gem to be accepted in later Valet razors, but I have heard of others doing it. I thought the same thing when they mentioned it...but it's been done. I have thought of punching or drilling holes in the right spot on a despined GEM. Any reason that would not work? rayr ? Punching would likely shatter the blade, especially the more brittle carbon steel blades. I guess making a template for each pin pattern and drilling might work, but that sounds like more work than I would want to do... everybody needs a hobby...go for it Fuzzy!

If the FHS-10 was as good as a Gem I might be tempted to get a OneBlade. But, they are only good for 3-5 shaves. 2-3 for me. Same for me. They have no legs at all. They are expensive as well, thanks to OneBlade...

It's been so long since I've despined a blade and I used a much more difficult method until I learned this way. Just squeeze the folded portion of the spine with pliers and it opens up. At least that's what I seem to remember. As I wrote, it's been a very long time.
Edit: I just watched Fuzzys video and similar to that except no rocking it back and forth.
