I believe HT has (or has seen) some ads that actually call it the Feather Weight (2 words, not 1); IIRC.

It is also possible that since they all work alike the instructions from a slim-v flat top were just used on the heavy Flat top. I am assuming now that the name Feather Weight is a misnomer and Slim-v flat Top is the right name?? As for the Feather Weight : instructions from back of box The Package Front of a 1950s GEMInstructions from that same razorThe razor was indeed marketed with a 'flat top', it also had 'snap action' which was a term the Brits were pushing on their ERs. These were descriptors, not necessarily the name of the razor. The same model as the Feather Weight made by Ever Ready Britain called their plastic model with a flat top a 'Ever Ready Natural Angle Razor'. They also produced a gold plated metal version, the same as what has been referred to as a G Bar, which was called a 'Ever Ready Deluxe Natural Angle Razor'. Still looking forward to someone coming up with the Heavy Flat Top name - I am thinking perhaps it was a description, it was a 'heavy', razor with a 'flat top'. No where however is it called a G Bar except as described earlier. From what evidence there is here so far, it is probably better called an all metal GEM with a flat top! Long name though. What do we have so far?? The plastic GEM was a Feather Weight, the metal one was a GEM which sported a 'Slim-V' flat top head - pretty much the same head as the Feather Weight. The identical ER models manufactured in Britain were named as above. Was there a point where the metal 1950's american GEM had a name? We will get to the bottom of this one sooner or later!!

Here's a 1954 ad for the Feather Weight and as you can see it refers to it as "Gem's sharpest V-edge of all". The Feather Weight was definitely named, as was the Push Button, and I remeber the picture MrGuy is talking about. The plot thickens...

We might be getting a bit off topic, but it's fun anyway. So here's some more of the Feather Weight Razor with the "Slim-V" head.

Seems the name G-Bar was first used on Shave My Face and is likely attributed to this fella - James - otherwise known as 'With The Grain'

Waites checked in and just supplied a few pictures, didn't say a word about either the HFT or the Featherweight.

Well heck..
I have about wore out my computer searching for ads from that era. Found a site with a lot of good stuff for sale but none on the HFT.

I think Tom hit it earlier, most of the adds from the time where the Heavy Flat Top was sold focused on the blades. I like the "race car diver" one. It has a HFT pictured in the corner, but it's selling blades for beards that are as tough as a race car driver's ;D

A little slow getting this in here.....but.....the Heavy Flat Top name was certainly used: Notice no capital letters though suggesting a description and not a name. But, there it is none the less.
