Was the shave good, Joe? I have one of these in my sights at the moment, but it's not cheap ($17 plus $14 postage) ... and it's tatty, will need some rust removal and re-plating. If it's the best thing ever, great, I'll get it ... but having just bought a GEM Junior Bar, my razor fund is running low. My apologies for replying late to your question Paul, Ive been pretty busy recently and pop in once in a while. I did manage to score another Unsinger safety razor which is a slight variation of the Adelene 1909. I am in the process of posting a review for my newest razor, thanks to limited time it seems to be taking forever. Some gents will say that the Adelene 1909 is quite mild. A modern blade will seat a bit further away from the guard then the original blade. If you seat a modern blade far back into the head the Adelene will soften up and become quite mild. I seat the blade very close to the guard as it was intended to be. With the blade seated (as it should be) I find the Adelene to lean towards the aggressive spectrum. In fact, I found the Adelene to be like a blade on a stick. The guard is designed bent downward to the point that blade just about sits on your skin. Paul, with patience you can score a Unsinger razor for a low price. I was patient and have recently gotten another Unsinger (branded as a Rea Safety Razor). My latest score came with the box original blade as well as the instruction sheet for just $6 including shipping. I've noticed that usually the Unsinger variant razors will sell for about $30+ but you can find them cheap. Keep in mind my shave experience of the Adelene might be different then yours.

Thanks, pal. Food for thought ... for me, the killer is postage as these kind of razors will rarely, if ever, come up in the UK and even then it'll be around half the cost of postage from the States anyway.

Bringing an old thread back to life.
I found one of these today. I just finished shaving with it. A very nice shave. I could go all 3 directions with no tugging or jumping. A gem blade worked great by following the above directions.
