Some serious 1912 metal being flashed around in here!! Wonderful to see so many variations at once - great photos. I haven't really paid enough attention to the subtle differences amongst these razors. And I didn't realize there were such a number of them either. Thnx for the great thread. (I haven't seen one of those canadian ordered English GEMs up here myself. Nada.) RM, there is a problem with looking at all of these different 1912's and it's getting a strong case of RAD!

Yeah ...
But, culturally, here in Blighty, the Ever Ready brand is well known, as is the Sheffield stamp. Your Ever Ready Sheffield calls down angels to sing in the hearts of every Brit, most particularly Tykes. That's Yorkshire folks - Sheffield is in God's Own County of Yorkshire.
Gem? Nah, it's all foreign ... let the London boys play with that one.

(I haven't seen one of those canadian ordered English GEMs up here myself. Nada.) RM, there is a problem with looking at all of these different 1912's and it's getting a strong case of RAD! Well... I'm pretty heavily dysfunctional already. Lately I have been contemplating seeing a Registered Shavologist regarding my clear Obsessive Cutlery Disorder. As well, I suspect some of the bad shaving dreams I have been having lately may be a result of an earlier traumatic shaving experience which has led to Post Traumatic Shaver Disorder. Almost daily there is the stress I live with from the dilemma of being confronted with endless choices of razor, soap, blade and cup. Then there is the photography of razors and all the negatives which that brings. Also, I am quite concerned with the hallucinations that accompany a great shave where afterwards I actually believe my double chin looks smaller. Lastly, and I don't know where this comes from at all, but I seem to believe that I can achieve great personal satisfaction from giving myself a good stropping. All in all, it is looking like I am a pretty chronic razor abuser. Unfortunately there is no RA group around these parts, which is why I come here - to confront my demons. Your support is very important fellas! Thnx

Rocketdude, you have inspired me to become a psychologist specializing in all forms of wet shaving dysfunctions. My professional advice to you is simple. Avoid polishing your razors more then once a week, do not sniff any shaving brush, take a cold shower when you feel like browsing eBay, don't hide excessive shave gear from your loved ones and do not shave more then once a day. If all else fails take two pills and call me in the morning.

I see you have a lot of DE's. I've always wanted one of those PAL DE razors that come in the little triangle case. Now, wait a minute, as the wet shaving psychologist all I have to say is ...

Ahhhhhh. I can see from your collection that you are acutely inflicted PJGH. It seems to have come on rather fast too! This notion of yours that there are 52 months in the year is worth speaking to a razor medical specialist about. Perhaps Doc Drumzalot has some helpful hints for the two of us. The problem for me Doc, I don't really admit that any of this is bad for me. Rad yes. Bad no! I will consider your suggestions. I'm not sure which pills I should take though. Hmmmmmmmm : ) So.......Deep in Denial. And you likely thought DD stood for Durham Duplex. Sheesh. But thnx Doc. And good luck to the OP. At least he is not sitting on the 'fence' on this one! (PJGH - what is that fencing handle thing on your museum page for?) ps - and oh yeah - canuck through and through.

The fencing handle is a razor handle ... beautiful counterbalanced for a light shave. The grub screw permits use with male and female razor heads.

Today first shave ever with a 1912-type SE, an Ever Ready British Made. What can I say...I am really impressed! In my SE journey so far I've tried the GEM Featherweight, the MMCP, the MMOC and various Injectors (ranging from E-type to L-Type) but this is by far the best razor I've ever shaved with. With 2 passes (WTG,XTG) it delivered a super-smooth, irritation free, BBS. I am totally fascinated, and I will definitely look to expand my collection of this type of razors since I actually own only 2, a british ER 1912 and a GEM Junior Bakelite handle - any advice on which one should I look for next? There's an old quote from Bushido which says "Among flowers, the Cherry Blossom. Among men, the Samurai", now I would add "Among Razors, the 1912"!!!!!

Since you are loving the 1912 give a Gem Damaskeene a try, better yet, an open comb Damaskeene! The world is your oyster really, so go with whatever SE you are itching for.

Also....a couple very similar types would be the ER1914 and ER1924..... Both give very similar type shaves and are very 'Sharp' looking razors too I might add....I would venture to say, if anything....maybe both are a tad more aggressive...But that is probably subjective....Also this March 24th the ER1914 will be having it's 101st birthday and I imagine we will be whooping it up around here....Should be a good time....
BTW......YOU CATS ARE KILLING ME OH-VAH-HEE-YAH!!!! Whose gonna be the Doctor for the Wet Shaving Disfunctionally Challenged Phychologist.........I'm crying!.......Real Tears!
BTW-2.....Paul, that Fencing Handle Razor Handle ROCKS! Do you need to splash with The "Veg" whenever you use it?
