I WIN THE RACE! I WIN THE RACE!! Yes! Now I've won twice! Thanks Andy. This morning arrived a beautiful puck of Colgate's Barber Shave Soap. Nicely wrapped by Andy with a personal note -- what a guy! I'll use it tomorrow morning and post pics. What a nice gesture. Thanks again. Sorry to all you LOSERS! Just kidding. The only losers lost the race. grin John That is a great soap. I have some of it that I love to use. Enjoy!!!

I WIN THE RACE! I WIN THE RACE!! Yes! Now I've won twice! Thanks Andy. I got mine today too so I guess I'm the second one across the finish line! Mine was also a puck of Colgate. I've always wanted to try this soap. I've seen it a number of time on auction sites but never pulled the trigger. I used to see it on the shelves all the time "back in the day" but I was mostly a user of the canned goo at the time. Thanks again Andy for your generous PIF!

Report:
So I've used modern Williams and gotten good results out of it. Meaning you have to soak the puck, soak the brush, and use a LOT of water. I'd heard great things about vintage Williams but never tried it before.
I used the puck like I would any other soap. Damp brush, apply to soap, then apply to face (I face lather.) The lather was, to me, every bit as good as what you'd see from a great tallow soap such as Tabac (which I've been using for the past two months.) Thick, creamy, protective lather that came with almost no effort. I got an amazing shave.
It's sad to know that at one point a top-notch shaving soap would have been available a few miles away to almost everyone in the US.
Andy, again I want to thank you for this generosity, and the note.
Steve

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy. Look what arrived today... Andy, you completely did too much here & I'm completely humbled & grateful. I never even owned an Old Spice mug until just a week ago... Now I have a perfect match! I can't believe how the soap even had the indentions for the "teeth" at the bottom of the mug. These pucks were definitely made to fit perfectly in these mugs. I'm also very surprised at the nice smell the soap still has. I certainly know what I'll be shaving with tomorrow before church. I'll have a maiden voyage of Old Spice soap, along with the maiden voyage for my newly acquired Schick E2 injector. I can hardly wait. Thanks again Andy!

I'm not 100% sure the Old Spice was originally a refill. Some one else who has a for sure refill might have to weigh in to let us know if they have the indents for the teeth. Some of the edges are a bit roughed up making me think that at some point it was pried from a mug. I always feel bad for the guys who say their OS has no scent left. It sure is nice! A tip for the OS, don't be afraid to work the brush for a good while. It does seem to do better (for me at least) with a little more loading than most other soaps. I'm glad all the soaps made it OK, and that more guys can enjoy the fun of vintage soap. I think I enjoy using vintage more since I know it's going to be hard to replace them once they're gone. Kind of makes you enjoy the shave that much more!

So, Steve, how does this compare with modern Williams? I, too have had good luck with modern Williams. I have an older stick of Williams that I have been waiting to use. 2 days straight shaving with the Old Spice soap from Andy (MrGuy) and they have been splendid. This soap lathers like a champ & leaves my face feeling great. I got some more glide out of the lather this morning and it was a smooth & enjoyable experience. I can't believe this used to be readily available & now we must resort to Internet sites & eBay.

...how does this compare with modern Williams? I, too have had good luck with modern Williams. I have an older stick of Williams that I have been waiting to use. It's an entirely different soap. Vintage Williams shaves like a high-quality tallow soap. Modern Williams requires a lot more water and work to get lather, but I can't see it being quite as good as vintage.
