It pushes and holds the blade forward against the stops if it's working properly. Of course the head needs to be closed for that to happen.

Ok. I'm able to move the blade from side to side slightly if i use my finger nail where the blade stops are. when the door is closed. is this normal?

Side to side load on SE single edge razors is minimal. The force is perpindicular to the blade (or somewhat diagonal with a slant stroke) and seats the blade firmly against the stops. Unless the movement is quite loose, allowing for slippage, it sounds like you are describing a normal 1914 blade seating.

OK cool. how about the butterfly thing inside the top cap? one side has lost the welding so the left wing is higher. does that effect anything? See the red arrow

If it works don't complain! :-) There's nothing anyone can do about it anyway. Break it and you're , well, don't do it. The razor won't function correctly without that spring.
There's only one thing you can do that I know of. Find a spare. Just keep your eyes open on the b/s/t. Eventually one will show up if there isn't one there now (I don't know).

yeah - an upgrade won't break the bank. But as for this one -
ShadowsDad is right. If it works 'enough' then you're in business. The only failure concern is if the blade slides so significantly that it moves well past the stop - then it could angle out and you could get a nick. But it won't get to that. Pay attention every couple of strokes or through the first shaves, don't consume too much tequila, and you will know whether it is clamping adequately.
That said though, from your picture it would seem the spring is not as effective as it should be. I imagine you will have loss of holding power. You can assess whether there is too much loss pretty easy though. In the end, it is up to you to decide if it is safe enough to use.
I have shaved with the odd razor that looked pretty rickety at first but ended holding up admirably.
Rickety. Who says that?

Hi IT's a wonderful razor. the first time i used it, i ended up with a ton of weepers, but from the 2nd shave on, it gave me wonderful shaves. I had the angle wrong and was not used to the short handle. But now i'm used to it. :-)
