Today I made a Walgreen's run and couldn't resist...I copped a bottle of Special Reserve and Classic Vanilla. I plan on doing some intensive testing... But for now I splashed a little on each forearm...First off,....I'm thinking maybe Clubman's Special Reserve is the most accurate Leather smelling AS I've ever sniffed...And the Classic Vanilla doesn't really smell like vanilla, but my first impression was GREAT! But you can never tell til you shave and use it "Full On"...So I'll report back after a real trial... In the meantime, what do you guys think about these 2 Clubman Heavy Hitters?

I really enjoy the Vanilla - I have read that the Vanilla refers to the colour, rather than the scent. It's fresher and lighter than regular Clubman and a refreshing change. Interestingly, on Fragrantica, they list vanilla as the dominant scent. Like you, I don't get it - I do get the more floral note though. Special Reserve! Boy, that's a scent isn't it? Freshly tanned, to me, complete with an acetic backdraft of vinegar (Fragrantica notes this as balsamic) which dissipates quite quickly leaving a strong scent of leather. There is more to it, though, and it's not musk, it's light and in the background, but feint smells of something predatory. Do you have the Musk yet? That is also an interesting twist. Yo Paul, I'm with you....I dug the Vanilla right off....And like you said,..Wow....that Special Reserve is something!...I don't dig the balsamic vibe but that doesn't hang out for long....and it is a very interesting scent...especially for the price. But it defies to be about the money. No this guy definitely has all the ear markings of a high-end, high dollar, niche frag....Maybe the best leather frag I've ever checked out...And I'm talking about Creeds and such...
Yesterday I mixed the two in my palm and splashed....I wanted to use the Special Reserve but it was too strong so I mixed some Classic Vanilla with it and loved it! The CV sweetened up the SR a bit and the SR gave the CV some serious depth....
Today I went back to straight Clubman AS and Couldn't leave the house...I was missing the Special Reserve too much so I resplashed....ha,ha...
Definitely more testing needed.....There is alot going on between these 3....I haven't figured it out yet but I like it....
The Classic Vanilla was an instant love.....The Special Reserve takes a little time, but its growing on me fast!....and of course the Original demands its share of the Shave Cave Real Estate...
I'd love to know what you guys think of these classics....

I love them both. Never have mixed them though. Both of these are well worth the time to check out.

Glad someone likes the Special Reserve, I can't stand it and neither does my wife. Tried to use it several times in the past but just can't do it.
As for the Classic Vanilla, sounds like something that I need to get my hands on really soon. Oh, Christmas is coming up. Have to get the wife to get some for me.

The vanilla is what I call a classic barbershop scent. I wear it often to work.

I heard someone compare the Classic Vanilla to Chanel Pour Monsieur....I tried the Classic Vanilla, it does remind me of that Chanel or maybe a Guerlain...It's kind of an oriental, a bit powdery and very likable...The only thing I think the Chanel has on it is longevity...But at $6 for a 7oz bottle vs $75 for 2.5oz's of the Chanel...You could afford to respritz from time to time....ha,ha...
The Special Reserve is a cologne not to be splashed on, but rather sparingly applied...Some folks say put some in a spray bottle and a spritz here or there is sufficient. I think thats a great idea, I do like it but that leather scent is pretty strong...a little goes a long way...It is a solid leather scent, but kind of a one-trick pony. Right now I like to splash the original or Classic Vanilla as an aftershave. Big splash, and later a little Special Reserve as a cologne. I think the two really compliment each other...
My wife likes all three...she even likes the Special Reserve. She said it was "very nice" and really smells like leather, not a cologne but like...Burying her nose in an old leather coat...She said the Classic Vanilla was GREAT, and smelled like a high end boutique frag....and she thinks the original is always in good taste.....Unfortunately she has developed a complete dislike for the Virgin Island Bay Rum....Reminds her of her Dad's Dentist Office...She loves being reminded of her Pop, but not the medicine smell of the Dentist Office...It does remind me of Lavoris Mouth Wash, maybe thats what she's picking up on...
Sooo, the Clubman line so far is a big success in my shave cave....

Which has more of that Olde Barbershop scent going on... And how does the Special Reserve stack up...I have a hard time comparing the Special Reserve with the other Pinauds. It easier for me to compare it to Dana's English Leather, or Creed's English Leather, or other leather frags... The Clubman just nails leather...makes even the Most expensive, the Creed seem like a joke...I mean like it or not...Special Reserve is leather!

Whaaaat, I thought you didn't dig perfume type stuff.....So whats the buzz....I want to know what is the "Veg" like... In your words I will probably understand if I want to cop or not....Come on RM, let er rip!
And if I know you are coming...My Walgreens will order any Pinaud just about...Takes about 3 or 4 days and theres no shipping charge...So I can have a care package of Clubmans waiting for you....Course then after you get back we'll be able to smell you here in Seattle...ha,ha...
Come to think of it....next time you want to check out the Special Reserve, let me know exactly when and I'll do like a mega splash and stick my face out of a NW window...you will probably be able to check it out there...If you smell leather coming from the South thats it....};^)

What does the Veg smell loke? It's very susceptible to your skin chemistry and on some people just smells like dirty nappies, so look out!, and before it dries down it certainly smells very odd on me. But on the drydown it's just intense lilacs and hyacinths and is wonderful. It's a strong, one-dimensional fragrance full of mystique. Is it common knowledge that it was created for the King Of Hungary to be used by his cavalry troop?

So how do you compare it the Clubman Original Aftershave?
