Heavily tarnished, in fact so heavily tarnished that I struggled to see if it was gold plated and just very dirty. I swore I took a picture before I started cleaning it up, but I cannot for the life in me find it so you'll just have to imagine a heavily tarnished razor ... worse than this Clog Pruf, anyway: ... and so I left it for a while since polishing gold is quite a specialist job, but today was the day and I tentatively started cleaning an area inside the cap as a test spot. It's brass! ... out with the brass polish, elbow grease and a fresh cotton cloth to get this razor back to its former glory! You can just see the heavy tarnish and pitting on the cap, but after an hour of rubbing I'd had enough. I can re-visit it in due course. Perhaps with some wet and dry? Detail on the handle: ... and in its final glory! It'll be a good shaver, I'm sure

Well it looks good after all! Was this model originally brass or has it simply lost all of its plating?

... another hour on the cap: Sorted! I think this was originally brass - some were.

Wow, that's astonishing...all the pitting seems to have vanished! What products did you use to get such a result?

I do polishing too. I use a combination of brass polishing liquid with cloth, brass brush, toothbrush, and fine steel wool to get them in tip top shape.

The ER '24 is one of my top rated razors and I love it dearly. Nice job! I'd get it plated ASAP. You just know brass won't look like that for long if it's in use.

The ER '24 is one of my top rated razors and I love it dearly. +1 The 1924 simply the best shaving safety razor I know of. And that brass one with an ornate handle is quite striking!

I believe this might be what Ever Ready sold out as the "Deluxe" model, circa 1925 ish. Wow, that's astonishing...all the pitting seems to have vanished! What products did you use to get such a result? Thanks, pal. I used Elsterglanz Universal, which is a diminishing abrasive polish followed up with Peek Polish, a very gentle polish which I used to polish out the polishing marks from the Elsterglanz. Finally, a bath with Sainsbury liquid hand soap, which seems to leave a really bright look and hydrophobic surface.

That looks really nice. I love how the brass ones can be attacked and polished with complete abandon until they really shine.
I have a brass ER 1912 and a couple of brass Micromatics, although I suspect that one of them may have been originally gold plated. I've spent a ridiculous amount of time polishing them (I used good old-fashioned Brasso).
I've considered giving them a coat of clear lacquer to prevent tarnishing although it would probably wear off the comb and edge of the cap after a few shaves.

Your Cloggy looks as tarnished as mine! I could have sworn you had the '24 re-plated! We should start sending our tarnished razors to you Paul.
+2 I agree with Brian, the '24 is a fantastic razor it delivers one super close shave.

I also had another go at the Cloggy - it was already well cleaned up, but already diminished Elsterglanz seemed to give it a new sheen, as it did to my brass Open Comb. Magic stuff! It does seem to need something like Peek to smooth out the polishing scratches, but the end result is wonderful!

Pictures, or it never happened right? In all its gory detail: ... naturally, to the naked eye it's less detailed and more shiny.
