Has anyone seen this handle or set before? It's British - that's about all I know about it.

I ran across this particular 1912 and thought the same thing. Is the handle original or is it a Frankenrazor? I hope that someone will have the answer.

Aside from Valet, I don't think there are other razors with compatible handles, so ... I think we can safely say that the handle was purposefully made for this (type of) razor. The box is unusual. The handle does fit in this box, but then so would a hex handle I think.

Greetings
No I have never seen that set before or the handle, I take it that to the rear of the handle in the box is a stropper head? Is that piece of bootlace type tape to the right to pull the stropper up and down a strop?
Curious!
Regards Dick.

Yeah, stropper head behind ... the ER stroppers are themselves moved up and down the strop on a handle; the same handle you'd use for the razor. The bootlace is just to hang the strop from what I can see. It's on eBay at the moment - I won't link coz of the rules of engagement here, but there are not that many Ever Ready razors on eBay so it's pretty easy to find.

This one actually isn't in my collection - it's still on eBay (not me as the seller, I should confirm) ...
But yes, my collection of Ever Ready, GEM & Star razors is now over 70!

Like CB with the Schicks, you must surely have the premier 1912 collection Paul! How many variations can there be? And where exactly were the British 1912s made?

Looking at another set, something caught my attention ... no, not the Cabinet Set ... LOOK! It's that handle again The GEM has an interesting stamp, too. Now, is it missing a top cap or is it intentionally topless? By the look of it, it is a hybrid of the older lather catcher style with a simple retaining back clip and the 1924. Prototype? It's a weird fish!

... oh, it gets better. The seller tells me that on the back, it says "GEM, Patented March 24/14, Made In USA". I've bought it What should I call it? The GEM 1914?

I did! I got this one and I got a Star Cru-Steel equivalent. We had a good chat about them here: theoriginalsafetytoo.com/thread/1805/star-1914 ... as Bob got one, too. As a shave, they do have a different angle to the 1914 in practice. I found them milder. I also found them quite difficult under the nose. Other than that, they are quite simply capless 1914s ... or 'Little Lidless Lather Catchers' ... ASR regarded them as test outfit razors to demonstrate their new blades, or rather their "marvellous Double Life and Cru-Steel blades" under the GEM and Star brands, respectively. So, "Test Outfit".
