I'm excited about my latest find: A Kampfe Bros. Star 1901 New Model lather catcher that is complete except for the directions and in really nice condition. The 1901 New Model seems to turn up on eBay less frequently than the 1902. The painting on the tin is in very good condition and amazingly, the razor has no plating loss at all, just a few minor scratches. Above, the 1901 patent can be seen. The blade holders are unusual: They can be loosened from the side and the holder slides back and forth to compensate for blade wear. It does have blade stops, allowing for the use of modern blades, but I have no intention of using anything other than wedge blades. --Bob

These early Kampfe's really are quite the art pieces. I will never tire of looking at these. You should be happy with this one. It seems to be in great condition.

It doesn't match any razor in the Hazelcorn classification, so it is quite rare I would think. Initially I though it is a HR-13A, but on closer examination this one has only a single rivet at the back, not 3 like the HR-13A. There is a picture of the back of this head in Jardella's book, but he doesn't use the HR-xxx classification.

At first (and even second) glance I would've definitely said HR-13A...very good eye with that single rivet vs 3 rivet spotting on the back. I think I pay too much attention to the text and figure I've got a match.

I bet the 13-A doesn't have Y-shaped teeth either. This one is also unusual in that the last patent date is 1901, but it has spring clips (New Model) that weren't patented until 1902. I'd say this is the very first New Model.
