Discussing this razor I suddenly realised I couldn't confidently identify an ER 1919 from an ER 1924. So how do you tell? And which one's mine? It is still undoubtedly my favourite safety razor (and I don't say that lightly) and has the flat-topped combs.

Let me start by saying, with complete confidence . . . I don't know. However, it seems the be the consensus that the rounded teeth came before the flattened ones, and the pedestal base came before the stamped base, so I'm guessing that a "1924" with the pedestal base and rounded teeth would likely be a 1919. Since yours has the flat teeth and stamped base, I would further guess it to be a 1924. Of course, there are a couple of different versions of the stamped base . . . --Bob

1919? Is this sparked by a certain online auction for a rather nice looking 1924, referred to as a 1919?
I've used the 1919 moniker, but in reference to the straight cap post-Damaskeene 1912s.

Thanks Gents! This is one of the reasons I love TOST so much From now on I'll just call them earlier and later ER 1924s. And my flat comb, stamped base ER 1924 truly is my absolute favourite safety razor.

I've been told that ASR was manufacturing the early 1924s from 1917 to 1919....Heres a quote from one chart I've seen:1919 (ER) Front Hinged Cap "Brooklyn New York USA" Patent Applied For (becomes the "1924").... After 1919 when ASR owned the EverReady name they put EverReady on them...But EverReady in Eng was producing earlier versions in 1915 that looked like a cross between the 1909 Ever Ready New like Rocket Dood has, and the 1924....
So RM has furnished us with photos of the 1909 Ever Ready....we need pics of the 1915, and the 1917-1919 version of the 1924s.....
Gentleman lets get out there and sniff them out!
Of course lets pay out respects to JB deMesquita who designed and applied for all the Shovelheaded patents....what a man!

Indeed respect is due - I shaved with an ER 1924 yesterday and for me it is the perfect safety razor. It's funny, I still can't get on with the ER 1914 at all - for me it is awkward and not intuitive, I didn't enjoy the Streamline at first but revisited it and now love it although it demands effort and good technique, everything else after the punchy OCMM is too mild and the 1912s are the 1912s. But the ER 1924 is smooth, aggressive, has a gorgeous blade feel on the face and is agile and manouverable. Yes perfect!

I wholeheartedly concur my friend.....Perfection if there ever was in a razor....I've been in love with mine since the first shave! After reading this thread tonight, I just took mine for a late night spin! I thank you Sir, for this thread....It reminded me that I haven't used mine lately.....I agree...There really is no better shave...I am reminded of why I was smitten in the begining with this wonderful shaver... deMesquita sure got this one RIGHT !

So how many discreetly different 1924 styles are out there? It would be nice to get a better handle on these razors. Bird, do you have photos of any you have mentioned?

Guess what I got Today ! An early 1924 with pillar fixing. This was the one Paul referred to in earlier post. Though no case, it is in really nice condition, apart from where user has allowed cover to flap into contact with the handle.
