The big extension on those Pro Super blades makes steep angle shaving possible. And it works superbly - with steep angle it feels like I'm shaving with a punchier R41!

In fact with the Pro Super blade, the Mongoose feels like the Streamline and the R41 had a giant baby.
I'm really noticing that the shave is very long lasting and, like the GEMs and ERs, the regrowth is really smart. 27 hours on from the shave I'm just back from the new Star Wars film looking like I've only just shaved!

Great review Marcus. Thanks for sharing your Mongoose experience. The Super blades are a bit much for my sensitive skin to be my daily blade, but it sure makes for a great special occasion blade when I have plenty of time to shave.

And now the Cobra has arrived there's going to be a showdown! I've read and watched hours of comparisons between the Mongoose and the Cobra. I never guessed I'd have them both on my kitchen table, so let's find out!

Waiting to hear your opinion....I never had the change to try either of them, but from what I've read it seems that the Mongoose is a better performer, as Brian also pointed out in his journals. Great way to end 2015 and enter the new year!

I really love the thinner head profile of the Cobras. However, that moveable blade bed created too much blade play and wrecked my girly-man sensitive skin.

My first shave with the Cobra today showed me that these are both incredible razors but they behave very differently: The Cobra is a super injector whereas the Mongoose is like a giant Streamline. With a standard Pro blade in it, the Cobra shave was completely intuitive and very smooth - it gave a near perfect shave straight off the stand. But the short handle was difficult to grip - the notches are on the front but I hold it by the sides. The Mongoose on the other hand has a superb grip with the Dr Bomber handle and it's much much better built. I've been using a Super blade in the Mongoose and, unlike the easy intuitive shave with the Cobra, I've had to work on my technique with it and have experienced some neck irritation. I need to try the Mongoose with a standard Pro blade in it to see if this will give the smooth calm shaves that others are talking of. And I've swapped in a Super blade to the Cobra, but I don't think this will make much difference in this razor because (although it's thicker) the blade extension is the same as the standard Pro when it's mounted in the Cobra head. But I absolutely love the Cobra! I briefly considered selling of all my other razors, but where's the fun in that? I think I need to relax and enjoy all the great shaves from these excellent razors

You should place them in a cemetery along with the Weck Surgical to shoot it out like the end of 'The Good, The Bad & The Ugly'.

Which one is which? Tuco, Angel Eyes & Blondie?

So I switched down from the Super to a standard Feather Pro in the Mongoose: To be honest I didn't notice much of a difference, but this shave confirmed to me that the Mongoose really feels (and sounds!) like a massive and madly sharp Streamline. What's not to like?

I can kind of see your comparison to the Streamline. I find the angle much easier to find and maintain with the Mongoose though.

Yeah - the differences between the Mongoose and the Cobra are coming into focus for me now. They're both delivery systems for the same blade but behave very differently. The Cobra is an extension of the injector concept - it shaves like a bigger, heavier, smoother and sharper E2 and I can honestly say that it's the best shave I've ever had, as well as being the best looking SE razor I've ever seen. The Mongoose on the other hand is an extension of the 1912 concept but with a 3-piece DE style construction (which is part of its brilliance). For me it shaves like a bigger, heavier, smoother and sharper Streamline with some of the punchiness of the OCMM thrown in there too. And having now used the standard Pro blade in the Mongoose, I understand why some people accuse it of being too mild - although the shave had a lot of noise and blade feel, the shave is truly not as close as with the Super blade, and the Super is now definitely my blade of choice for the Mongoose.

So tonight I used a Feather Pro Super blade in the Cobra - Vicco loved it! Wow - with the extra extension of the Super blade there's some real blade feel on the face, and that notorious sensation of blade flex which tells you you're going to have a FIERCE shave. With the standard Pro blade my Cobra gave a stellar shave, but with the Super it's off the chain!

I have been told that Mongoose will now no longer ship internationally due to problems with USPS insurance.
I'm in UK so I'm really glad to have got a new Mongoose from the most recent release.
