Just used this for the first time with a new shimmed SS Gem with MWF. What a smooth shave, did a three pass, WTG, ATG, XTG. No need for any touch ups. Photo by the seller, it's in really good shape. The case is scratched up, but this is my first set that had a blade holder. I have two other sets, but they didn't come with them. Another bonus, $8 buy it now, about $15 with shipping. If this was a Gillette, it would be out of my price range. Joe

No, I had to read the other thread to see why. Mine is not the rare bird, but so far I'm very happy with it. Joe

Good to hear you got such a great shave from this razor. The 14s are a very good frame. One of my favourites I have to say. Although I do have a few favourites. : /

This thread is prompting me to try my newly acquired ER 1914 (12-tooth!) too.
I only got it to put in my "Town Set" case - I've had two previous adventures with the LLC and not enjoyed it either time, but I had to revisit the Streamline before it revealed its delights to me so perhaps the ER 1914 will do the same.

Marcus, Am sure it will, I use a 1/2 Spine shim it seems to work. Mike

Nice! Yours is called a 'Sport' Set, circa 1924.

Nice! Yours is called a 'Sport' Set, circa 1924. Thanks for the info. I've always been interested in history, so using these vintage razors is better just reading about something in the past. We should be lucky they are still around to use. This one is quickly becoming my favorite, no DE I had used could give a shave like these SE's.

Here's an advert from 1924: You can see the 'Sport' up in the top right, the 'Triumph' in the top left being the GEM equivalent. There was also a Star in the same metal case for the French market, but I'm struggling to find a name for it. The 'Town' directly below the 'Sport' is the same razor in a celluloid case. There was also a 'Marbelite' case, heavy dark brown plastic in the same style. Spidey9 showed us his 'Touring' in another thread recently and you'll find my 'Speedster' somewhere or other in the SOTD pictures. I also picture up a 'Sedan' recently. You've guessed it: I'm going to try to get the whole lot from this advert

Thanks for photo.
$17 in 1924 would be $236 in 2015!

So I revisited the LLC thanks to this thread and my newly acquired Town Set case: When I first encountered the ER 1914 a few years ago, I didn't like it and found it difficult to get a good shave around the jawline - it was much choosier about angles than I was then used to. But through the magic of time and practice all that has changed and no I LOVE THE ER 1914!! There's lots of blade feel and it's a punchy but well balanced experience for me now - the Shovelhead's still the smoothest and the Streamline's still the classiest but the ER 1914 has got to be the most fun. For me with some razors it's love at first shave (Empire, ER 1924, Cobra Classic) but with this and the Streamline my initial disdain has turned into real appreciation... There's got to be a lesson in that somewhere!
