Inaugural shave with the Bunny V3 First impressions:
Beautiful piece of art & machinery combined. Everything looks smooth and clean. Some machining and sanding scratches are visible, but I rather like that you can see this is not a product of a factory but a product of man. The Bunny is a bit smaller than I had imagined, but the size is quite good. As is the weight: 61 grams ( 63 for a Gillette ball end tech and 28 for a Schick L1 ). I quite like the weight and balance of the Bunny. The three combs are easy to replace as the thumb screw works just fine for me! I took out my caliper gauge and measured the length of the combs and found that the difference in length is 0.1 millimeter per comb (so the difference between 'mild' and 'wild' is 0.2 mm). Without blade loaded With blade loaded *point of small concern:
The combs can wiggle a tiny bit from left to right. But a tiny bit can mean a lot when shaving. If you use the 'notso' comb, one side of the blade can be on the 'mild' setting, the center 'notso' and the other end 'wild'... All three combs can wiggle about the same amount. *Point of concern when loading the blade:
I first loaded a blunt blade. Little effort was needed to get it loaded. But when I retrieved the key, the blade was completely askew in the razor. One end was sticking out. It turns out that when the key is inserted, the blade lies completely loose in the razor. Yes. Loose. Hold the razor to one side and the blade just falls out! I didn't expect that, because in my Schick L1 the blade is stil firmly held in place in the razor when the key is inserted. The blade still rests on the nock on the left side of the razor, otherwise it would just have fallen out.
I view both points of concern as beta testing occurencies. So no biggie for me. When loading a new blade it is only important that I have to be aware of the way I'm holding the razor and I have to take care when removing the key. Since no-one else has reported this, I guess it is a glitch of this Bunny. The probably all have their own character... The shave
I was planning to skip a day and shave tomorrow, but I just couldn't wait it out. So I headed to the bathroom and took out: - TGN grade A silvertip brush
- Cella cream
- The Bunny (duh!) with the 'mild' comb loaded
- Dutch NOS Schick platinum blade
But I was too hasty and must have messed up my preparation. That or I must have had a bad blade. Either way, the razor tugged and tugged. Changing the combs during the shave was easy but didn't help. So the shave was quite rough. But... apart from that the result was great! I'm really smooth now! I'll be using the same set-up tomorrow, but I'll load a different blade (Personna, probably) Lessons learnt:
The Bunny is a beautiful piece of art Be alert when reloading this Bunny so the new blade doesn't fall out or loads askew. Take time to prepare properly (my bad today!)

Terrific presentation of your journey with this razor!
The blade slippage is concerning. It also appears to be aluminum? Quite a soft metal which can 'stretch' with repeated use making wiggles and slips increase with time perhaps.

2nd shave with the Bunny
After tuesday's shave I let the skin come to rest and in consultation with Tom I made a slight change with the main spring which was a bit unevenly bent. Remember it's a Beta razor, so these things can happen. I loaded a Personna blade from Connaughtshaving, had a proper preparation and went at it. Taking care to hold the razor at an almost 90 degrees angle and using as light a touch as I could manage I had a far better shave than tuesday. I guess then it was a combination of bad preparation, bad angle and bad blade. This on the other hand was way better. I feel I still have a bit of trouble to find the correct angle, but I'll get there. I felt that it was easy and comfortable to hold the razor in different ways for different angles of attack (up-down, down-up, left-right, right-left etc). I felt though that I needed to be aware of having clean hands to be sure of having a good grip on the handle. I think some knurling on the handle may come in handy. The result after three passes was another BBS shave. The alum still gave a little more than average sting, but way less than with the first shave. Thanks again, Tom, for making such a nice shaver and sending it around the world!

There is also a West Coast USA Passaround going on with the Bunny, and I am fortunate enough to be a participant. It arrived yesterday, and I had my first shave with it this morning. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that its creator is a big fan of the Schick Type F. Weighing in at 1.85 oz, it has a nice solid feel in the hand (a typical non-adjustable injector weighs in at about an ounce). Fit and finish are surprisingly good, especially considering that this is a prototype. The only tool marks I could find were underneath the removable comb. I did not experience any of the difficulties loading the blade as described above, and the spring seems to hold the blade firmly in place against the blade stops. My first shave was an adventure. I used the "MILD" comb and loaded a NOS Schick Super Chromium blade. The angle is different from the usual injector, more like that of a Schick Repeating Razor. It's a rather quiet shaver, making finding the angle a little trickier. Nonetheless it didn't take me long to find it and complete a 3 pass shave. With the "MILD" comb in place, the razor felt, well, mild. I was able to scoot right along without fear of irritation or weepers. Imagine my surprise when I was applying aftershave and realized that I had just gotten a really close mostly BBS shave. I'm really looking forward to the next few days. --Bob

Looking at the excellent reports from Mike and Bob, you guys make the Bunny sound like it's a very stealthy piece of equipment taking you by surprise with its quiet efficiency... ...I can't wait to find out!

First shave with the Bunny with a modern Personna: And the first impression is simply what a good looking razor this is - the Art Deco looks of the Schick F with a real futuristic hint of Flash Gordon too! Loading the blade was simple but did require the slight clockwise twist of the key that others have mentioned, as well as a slow deliberate action to get it seated properly. Changing the combs was also straightforward and self-explanatory, although the length of the screw meant that it didn't seat itself automatically and involved a bit more fiddling. This is a very small issue though which a shorter screw and some countersinking could easily fix. And the fit of the combs is perfect. The Bunny does not shave like a Schick injector at all though - it has a small range of effective angles and needs to be almost flat to the face, very much like an ER 1912 or Streamline. The other unusual feature here is that the handle runs from the head in a straight line, so that the grip is like a stick. The handle could just as easily make an angle with the head as in most other razors, but it's just a matter of getting used to the change in grip and arm angle and actually I think this is an endearing feature of the design: And most noticeably, this is an INCREDIBLY STEALTHY shave - although the Bunny is relatively light which suits the stick-like grip, there's almost no feedback (I guess due to the integrity of the head). No blade feel and no bite, the Bunny just seems to magically wipe away the beard, even with the 60hrs growth I was testing it on this morning. In terms of the other injectors, I'd say the NOTSO comb felt closest to a Schick G but smoother and quieter but the resultant shave was more efficient than an E. Stealthy, stealthy stealthy. On this first shave I only have one critiscism: the flat plate of the comb collects a lot of lather which it then smears back on to your face as you continue to shave and which collects in the comb. I will try with a much slicker lather tomorrow. And on this first shave I also have plenty of praise: The Bunny looks gorgeous, feels great in the hand and delivers a very efficient shave which is just shockingly quiet and smooth. This is not your average injector, and my first impression is that it's in a class all of its own.
