As the ER 1914 has a smaller thread on the head/handle than the 1912, 1924 and Streamline, I've been looking for a way to attach a modern S/S handle. After using my Standard DE, I had sudden eureka moment when I remembered the grub screw with the double thread. The the larger thread is M5 and fits the handle as well as other modern handles. The smaller thread that fits into the Standard head is actually smaller than the 1914 thread. I found a nut that fits the smaller grub screw thread. et voilà. My next shave I now need to find the size of the smaller thread and a source of similar grub screws.

How did it shave for you ? I always get a great shave with the 1914. The longer, heavier handle meant I had to use less pressure and still got a super smooth result.

That's more elegant than my method - drill out & tap the mounting hole to accept the larger thread. Of course, this means I cannot revert to the original handle. I only do this to user grade 1914's.
I used to have a Standard Razors DE. Unfortunately, I got rid of it when I sold off all of my DE's.

I just retapped mine gently with a 10/32 tap and a small crescent wrench without drilling it out.

polishaver that is awesome. I guess I am going to have to lose my biasi against some of this stuff. As long as not putting unmentionable handles on I can probably take it. Lol

The handles I have been making for lather catchers also work on the ER 1914.

I just retapped mine gently with a 10/32 tap and a small crescent wrench without drilling it out. Yeah, they're thin, and brass, so you don't need to drill. But I would never modify something old to fit something new, only the other way around. Then again, I feel no need to use the incorrect handles on my razors.

I now need to find the size of the smaller thread and a source of similar grub screws. You'll have to have it custom made, it's an old whitworth thread.
