Monday, March 5, 2012 Prep: Hot shower; Yardley bath bar Lather: De Vergulde Hand "extra fris" - face lather Brush: Semogue 1250 Razor: Gem Enigma (HFT, G-Bar, etc…) Blade: Ted Pella PTFE (1); 3 passes Post: Cold water rinse; Krampert's Finest Bay Rum Very nice getting back to my beloved SEs after some DE trials. The Enigma worked well but was slightly lacking. I must be jonesing for a OCMM shave. I broke out the boar brush on the DVH and it performed well.

Monday morning:
Hot towel face prep TOBS Almond cream Simpson Special pure badger VAS VC1 Feather SE blade (8) Bay Rum
Today was another test of the sample of TOBS that I received from a friend. The first time I used it I used enough for my extremely soft water; about 1/3-1/2 a snurdle. Today I used about 2/3 of a snurdle to see if I could get rid of the chemical scent that I got the first time I used it. It was even worse. Today it was definitely and unmistakeably there. The TOBS Almond functions nicely, but the chemical/burnt smell is the deal breaker for me. It isn't merely unpleasant, at this level of useage, it's worse than that. If I had to use a full snurdle I don't know if I'd keep it on my face. What a shame. It works fine otherwise.
Other than that, a great shave. And 8 shaves from the Feather blade! And it's still going too. That makes them much more affordable.

Maybe they screwed up the batch that my sample came from? I dunno. I thought they'd have tested it. Maybe it was poor QC.
Want it to compare? There are maybe 2-3 lathers remaining.
PM me a physical address and I'll send it.
Frankly with their reputation I'm surprised. FWIW the gent who sent it to me had the same nose reaction. I sure wish I could place the scent but I can't really, except to state that it isn't right.

Just for my two cents - I bought a jar of TOBS sandalwood - and I'm afraid I can't stand the stuff. It just smells very unnatural and kind of 'chemically'. I haven't been able to use it. I am going to try and pawn it off on a 'friend' and hope for the best!
I disliked it so much that I would not buy any other of their (produce - edit lol!) products. YMMV of course

Mon Mar 5
Pre: Green Proraso pre/post Soap: MWF Brush: Ever Ready Bristle Razor: Ever Ready 1914 Little Lather Catcher Blade: Gem SS (1) After: WH, Veg, Talcum
The little lather catcher was sad that it could not be part of Lather Catcher Month, but it still performed nicely.

The little lather catchers could also be sad because that description could be hurting their psyche. Maybe we should refer to them as them Lather Catcher challenged.

Tue Mar 6
Soap: Arko stick Brush: Ever Ready 300 PBT badger Razor: Ever Ready 1914 After: WH, Pinaud VI Bay Rum, talcum
Very comfortable DFS+.
Maybe you're right, Brian. This is more of an evolved lather catcher than a 'little' lather catcher, after all, it's not really little. It still catches the lather.

March 5th (I'm a day behind ) Prep: Hot shower Razor: Started with a Clog-Pruf. During the 1st pass realized the blade was past its prime. I was running late and I keep my blade stock in another part of the house, so a grabbed the PAL adjustable to finish up. Disaster averted. Cream: Bigelow Brush: Made Rite 750PB with original knot Finish: T.N. Dickenson's Witch Hazel
