Lately I have been using a house brush more often. Any one else like these as much as I do?

I have one in my rotation. I like the experience because the fiber is so different. Taken directly from my brush inventory, without that I wouldn't remember what it is.
Vie-Long 1307B 50% mane/50% tail, 23x53mm (as measured) unbleached blond, olivewood handle

I've had two before and just didn't like them - the smell was nice, they were soft with just a nice scritch, but having to comb the knotted tangle through with a pet comb after each shave was too much. Both handles were so nice, they got re-knotted: one with synthetic (mine) and one with some manky badger knot, a Best I think it was, for a pal.

That said, I have another coming now ... out of curiosity. Again, if I hate it, it's a nice handle.

I have to confess that since I discovered the current generation of synthetic brushes a year and a half ago I have acquired about 9 of them and use them exclusively.

I have to confess that since I discovered the current generation of synthetic brushes a year and a half ago I have acquired about 9 of them and use them exclusively. --Bob I've had two modern chestnut horsehair brushes and they were both too floppy for my liking. But I agree, those Plisson/Plissoft synthetics are as good as it gets. There's no reason to use anything else but I do go back to my big boars sometimes just for the fun of it.

I only have one horse brush, the Vie Long so called "American Style". Though I love the looks and the backbone (not floppy at all) and I don't mind the very small knot (I always face-lather), I cannot get past the black-badger-like "stinginess" of the tips, especially when compared to my Omegas (both boars or synthetics).

My American Style Vie-Long arrived today and I have to say, after a couple of vigorous test lathers I am very happy with it. Like Petrvs, I find it in no way floppy (like the other Vie-Long horses I've tried), it doesn't tangle up and I think I am going to be very happy with it ...
It's not as soft as a boar ... yet. From memory, these horses can take a little breaking in. Blonde boar seems to just be just right, soft and all, from the outset.
