Today's mail brought The Single Edge by Supply Provision. This is a new all stainless steel injector razor - the first new production injector in, well, a really long time. The Single Edge started out as a Kickstarter project about a year ago, and the backers (of which I was one) are getting the razors now. The Supply Provision Co. website has been accepting pre-orders for some time and will begin shipping them soon. As can be seen above, the razor arrived nicely packaged. Being made entirely of stainless steel it is quite heavy (3.85 oz/110 gm) but well balanced and has a nice feel in the hand. I have the "Custom" version which includes 3 safety bars with different thicknesses and thus different blade gaps, varying aggressiveness. Unfortunately pre-orders are no longer being accepted for this version. A canvas case is also included, along with a package of Personna blades. Tomorrow: How it shaves. --Bob

It is technically not the first injector in a long time. There are cheap Chinese Schick knock offs, modern production, on Amazon and presumably ebay. However, people that have tried them say they aren't very good.

I've tried one, it's junk. Besides, it is just a cheap copy of a Schick L - nothing really "new" about it.

Hey Bob,
What was your backer number? I received my "make sure your address is correct" email from them two weeks ago and have heard nothing since. I'm chomping at the bit. Let's hope your first shave doesn't quash my anticipation...

That took some digging. I signed up on August 5, 2015 and my backing number was 345. I received the address confirmation email on June 3 and a shipping confirmation/tracking number on June 15.

I'm 347. After posting here I found a message on their website admitting that the software they are using didn't allow them to easily organize the ship outs in order of backer number. I also found my shipping confirmation, dated today, in my junk mail folder. It says I should expect mine on Monday.
Thanks for the info and let us know how your shave goes.

Very exciting! It really looks similar to those Personna injectors and I'm intrigued to hear about the quality of the shave.

Indeed - it is obvious that the styling was influenced by the Pal Adjustable and Personna injector razors - which is not a bad thing. The first shave went exceptionally well. I started with a Personna blade, since that is what the manufacturer recommends (a pack is even included with the razor). The 3 guard bars are described in the instructions as "Sensitive," "Classic," and "Aggressive." The Classic was installed so that's what I went with. The blade loads easily. Unlike traditional injectors it is not necessary to have a blade already in the razor in order to load a new one - in fact, it works better without one. The guard bar is spring-loaded and the blade can be removed simply by pressing on the guard bar below the retaining screw - the blade drops right out. Also, by pressing on the guard bar a different blade can easily be loaded without using the injector dispenser. It's easier than loading the blade in a Cobra Classic. This will make swapping blades back and forth for comparisons a snap. As I mentioned in my previous post the razor is heavier than any other injector, and thus doesn't really feel like an injector razor - not bad, just different. There is also more audible feedback than I'm accustomed to from injectors. Finding the correct angle was easy and intuitive. The shave was exceptionally smooth and possibly a bit on the mild side. Keep in mind that this is from the perspective of someone who has been using the new ATT SE1 with a Feather AC Pro blade all week, so my perceptions may be a bit skewed. Despite the perceived mildness the shave was quite close, mostly BBS with no irritation. I had one weeper when I deliberately went over a known trouble spot several times just to see if it would produce a weeper. It did. Above is a comparison of the Sensitive (on the left) and Aggressive guard bars. The difference can clearly be seen. All in all, an outstanding first shave. The Single Edge is most impressive, especially considering that this is a new all stainless steel razor that can be pre-ordered for $60. Or at least it could have been. I just took a peek at the website, and it appears that pre-orders are no longer being accepted. Hopefully this is a temporary setback. This is an interesting razor and I'm looking forward to experimenting with different blades, guard bars, etc. --Bob

Great stuff Bob! It does sound very good and I like the innovative blade loading system. I don't have a place in my rotation for mild razors, so I'm keen to hear how the "Aggressive" bar performs. If it can get up there with the Schick E and the Bunny then I'm definitely interested. Also the idea of a heavy injector is appealing. An injector safety razor doesn't have to stick to the Schick/PAL format and your description portrays this as quite an innovative design which is good news for everybody. This new renaissance in SE razors is really exciting and it's great to see members here exploring the 21st Century razors as well as still enjoying the classic SEs. Thanks for the reviews and please keep up the good work

I now have 5 shaves in with The Single Edge, 3 with a Personna blade and 2 with a Chinese Schick. After the first shave discussed above I switched to the "Aggressive" base plate and have been using that exclusively. The razor is exceptionally pleasant to use, and even with the base plate mentioned it is not particularily aggressive. At least it doesn't feel aggressive, but still delivers an exceptionally close shave with a complete absence of weepers and irritation. The Schick blade seems to be a little sharper/smoother than the Personna, but both blades work well. I'm looking forward to experimenting with some NOS blades. I was on a little weekend getaway over the weekend and The Single Edge was my travel razor, loaded with the Personna blade. The case is made of waxed canvas and was included in the Kickstarter Backer package I selected. It can also be purchased as an option for $25. I would have preferred a leather case, but it serves its purpose of allowing me to dig around in my dopp bag without fear of slicing a finger. I see that Supply Provision is again accepting pre-orders on their website. Pricing is now $75 for the razor with the classic base plate & 1 pack of Personna blades, $95 for the razor with all 3 base plates and the blades. --Bob

Hi Bob, Is there any information on whether or not a Twin Blade can be used in this Razor. Mike B
