Lately I've been scouring e-bay hunting down a Damaskeene. My question is if it's possible to determine, mainly from the handle design, if or not it in fact is a Damaskeene or a Damaskeene head. Many sellers don't mention any Damakeene markings or post side-on pictures and I've let a few likely suspects go because I'm just not sure. You can tell from most handles that it won't be but the reverse, in my non existent experience with this razor, I suspect is not necessarily the case.
I realise the only sure fire way is to see the markings on the inside but it's the head, which after all determines it's shaving qualities, that I'm after. I've read previously that the Damaskeene markings aren't in all Damaskeene style heads.

The easiest way I know of to identify a Damaskeene on ebay is to simply ask the seller if there is anything printed inside the head, and if so, what does it say.
Most sellers of razors on ebay simply have no clue what's important to a buyer. There is at least one exception that I know of.

True, but at the same time you don't want to alert other buyers to the fact that it is one. Aren't all questions and answers pertaining to the item itself available to all potential bidders? I'm not that experienced on e-bay. I've even downloaded a snipe program to nab one. I'll ditch it after this one (free for 10 days) as I understand the objections to it. But on the other hand if everybody used one it would even the playing field. Anything that makes e-bay work is in my view a good thing as previous to it's existence many useable second hand items would have landed in the garbage. Call me a greenie.

Nice razor. Good catch looks like. I think that is a feather weight box I could be wrong. Either way worth it for the razor.

.......I think that is a feather weight box I could be wrong........ That or a HFT. A later model in any case. If it fits, my case-less bullet tip wouldn't look out of place in there. Maybe find a nice leather sleeve for the Damaskeene.

That's a good looking Damaskeene. It's one of the later models made after they became the Gem Safety Razor Corporation around 1919.

Just received my Damaskeene. Of course, five minutes after I had my morning shave. Must admit I'm somewhat underwhelmed regarding the difference with a standard 1912. Yes, it's got the curved plate but it's not anywhere near as pronounced as I expected it to be. The blade exposure and gap appear to be very similar so I can't on the face of it understand why it would have such different shaving characteristics. Only one way to find out. I'll do a 1912-Damakeene shave-off and what's more, I'll bore you all stupid with my impressions. It's pretty quiet on this site so a bit of traffic won't hurt.

Bore away. I will be happy to hear your thoughts on the two razors. One difference might be the weight of the two. Well see how you sort it out.
