I like them both. Both different, both are great scotches. I hope you know that I'm not a "everyone here is a winner" type of person, but in this case that's exactly what I need to announce. I just can't pick a winner. The wife can but I suspect she's a one issue scotch taster and as a smoker I wonder just what she actually tastes. Heck, she likes my cooking so how discerning can she be? OK, with that clearly I need some shut eye. :-) Ha,ha,ha,ha, lmao!!!! It's a good thing "What happens at TOST, Stay at TOST".... Yup it does. Good thing most of the lady folks have better things to do then check up here.

This is weird....I picked up a bottle of Scotch for a friend's birthday. I saw a bottle of Glenfiddich 12 on sale for like $30...So I snagged and we went by my friends house...He and his family had just moved and my wife and I picked up a couple things for the new house, and I got the Scotch for him...
Instantly upon arriving he opened the Glenfiddich 12 and poured him. and me a couple drams...Now I don't embibe on a regular basis and when I do, it's usually a nice 15 year old or even 18 year old single malt...The Quinta Ruban or the Soleras....But the point of this whole thing is....The starter Single malt...the $30 12 year Glenfiddich tasted REALLY GOOD!
So when I got home I revisited an inexpensive Glenlivet 12....same thing....Either my taster is not working or....I believe it's working better than ever...I'm tasting all the different fruity things that I usually over look....
You know....I think when we get so into looking for complexity in our Scotch...I'm speaking for myself....I think I've been over looking just how grand a simple quality 12 year malt can be...without the complexity...
Now I'm finding myself reaching for the Glenlivet 12...and enjoying its simplicity...and just simply enjoying it's light fruity taste! Thats cool, and it's almost half the price...IT'S ALL GOOD!

Yeah, I'm not sure what I like best. I guess I ought to try that brand my friend that lives under the overpass drinks that I mentioned earlier in this thread. As I said I couldn't read the whole label due to some yellow stains but I think it was "Car Ossi". First red scotch I've seen. I'll stop in at the "We Be Liquor" store and see if I can find it. I'll keep you folks posted if its any good.

So far of the new scotches I've tried so far the one I like best is the one I have at that moment in my hand. They're all good, some standouts, but no dogs. When I walk into the liquor store they make some comment to my wife about Mr. Expensive, or some such. My everyday driver is the White Horse. It's good without being overly pricey. My liquor store doesn't carry it, but they can get it within a few days of my ordering.

White Horse is Great...A very reasonable dram that tastes better than most high dollar blends...Personally, I like it better than Johnnie Walker Red or Black labels....Although the JW Green label has a veddy veddy special favor profile which I think distances it quite abit from their Red and Black labels...But most people speak of JW Black label in "hushed tones"...While I wouldn't turn down a dram, I mean it is an excellent blend, that is blended by a solid Whisky Artist Blend-Master....But so is the "White Horse" and I agree...I have done back to back tastings and I preferred the White Horse hands down! Their choice of single malts is very friendly and their single malt content is higher than almost any blend...
Unfortunately, my liquor store chain doesn't carry "The Horse"....maybe I should ask them if they can order it...I never even thought to ask that...If they can, I'll be in your dept for the idea...
At the time, I prefered Teachers Highland Cream and White Horse...to any of the JWs except the Green...but I have heard on good authority, that Teachers has been bought by a huge distributor and the recipe has unfurtunatle been changed...even the single malts used in the blend have been changed...I've also heard that Johnnie Walker Green has changed their recipe and it is very pale in comparison to what it once was!
Good News.....White Horse is unchanged and is still the great blend it has always been.....LONG LIVE THE HORSE !!!

On a different note...Someone told me that Dewar's Ancestor 12 year was another well kept secret...Not the Dewars White label you see everywhere including grocery stores....But the 12 year Ancestor bottle, it less than 5 dollars more....The proplem is, that puts it in the Glenlivet 12 range, and I know thats perfect... But we need to try new things...
I've been asleep on that one....This Holiday Season I might have to give it a try....

I believe it is....They have changed the label for that though...At my store they still call it Dewars Special Reserve 12, but the new bottle and label has "the ancestor"0 on it...The one you showed and the new one are both supposed to be "double distilled" but the new lable doesn't say that...but it is still double distilled and supposedly that process make for alot of extra flavor... Alot of folks are saying it is better than JW Black label...some say a whole lot better...and at a fraction of the price....I've GOT to try it...I've heard these kind of things before and they were wrong...but then sometimes they are right...Monkey Shoulder, was a winner....Someone told me they were at a party like 10 years ago and Sean Connery brought a bottle of this Dewars with him...I know he is usually seen with The Macallen 18.... He did some commecials for Dewars...I don't think he would promote something he didn't dig... Yep, this is the one you can get...great commercial:

I called to have them order it for me, but they had it on the shelf. The store has recently changed hands and they expanded the scotch section.

Bravo!!
I'm waiting for a review! I might have to cop before the Holiday Season!!
I checked with my store....they have the Dewars but no White Horse and they can't order it either....White Horse has no distributor in this State....
Hope that Dewars is Great! That would help ease the WH issue...}8^))

You know that I just grade on a pass/fail right? I either like it or I don't. :-)
I do some photography once in awhile. I gave myself the assignment of taking reflections one autumn. I showed a friend some of the shots and he was critiquing things that I had absolutely no control over (reflections of color on waves) and after he got done I asked, "But did you like them?". Pass/fail.
I'll let you know how it measures up against what I have in stock. The wife and I like doing these tests. The problem is that, at least for me, my tongue is useless after the first 2 side by side tests. Hence pass/fail.
