First impressions...
It's definitely not "regular" Dewars. I'm not a fan of that blend, but if it was in my glass I wouldn't push it away. Understand, all I did was have a few sips (really, just a few) the first thing that hit my tongue was that it was sweet. Not syrupy or anything like that, just slightly sweet. Very smooth. I like it, but I need to get closer to a wee dram to make sure. Different bottle to what's pictured in the link and that threw me initially, but all of the text on the label is correct.

The Glenlivet 12 single malt just went on sale at my LocalLicquorStore for $32, thats the same price as the Dewars.....After reading your review....I think my next visit there will be a no brainer!
Thanks...! I'm glad it's not bad....I hope it will surprise you and be SUPER, I mean Sir Sean digs it! };^D If it does turn out to be really good and not grainy.....I might cop the Dewars instead....I love to discover a new low price GREAT Scotch..and I love to support a Master Blender who is doing great things, and not over charging for it!!....That White Horse had me smiling for days....well actually I'm still smiling about that one...}8^))

White Horse is roughly 1/2 the price of the Dewars.

White Horse is a real fined....Can't get it in Washington State...I heard they might stip making it....Nobody knows about it, so nobody buys it....But everyone who does taste it LOVES it! It has a real niche following....Might have to stock up...
Now I don't know that...I read it in several comments on a couple whisky blogs....But there is no doubt...The White Horse is THE "Bang for the Buck" Winner at this time!
BTW...you got a great price...my LLS said if they ordered it...it would be $32....I asked was that the 2Litre price and the cat looked like he was gonna kick my @$$...ha,ha..
Which on-line place do you order from?
BTW...Johnnie Walker Black is $8 more than the Dewars at my store....Thats what I'm looking to see...I hear the Dewars is as good or better than JW BLack....If thats the case...Mission Accompliced! };^))

I just do a net search when I need something not stocked. I have no loyalty for distributor in that. Just make sure it's sent in a plain box. But they should do that without being told- they know what's up. It's almost always out of CA and no questions asked, not even age. They need the revenue.
Heck, the stuff I order is niche stuff anyway and I'm just glad to find it. My local liquor store can only order through the system in place.
The last I ordered was Barack Palinka, a Hungarian apricot brandy that's just delicious. Yeah, try to find that at the local liquor store. I also found that there is a version that's made from cherries. Next time I order it's going to be a case of each. Fantastic stuff, but I find that today I need to dilute it a bit with neutral spirits because the flavor is too intense. Dilution allows the flavor to come through better for me today. 4.5 decades ago, when I was introduced to it, it was fine straight out of the bottle.

When the.Scottish add a spoon or so of water to their Single Malt to bring out the flavors hidden by the alcohol....They call it "Chasing the Serpents Away" lol!

Many decades ago when the wife and I were in a bar/pizzeria I was drinking scotch and water and the first one the tarbender gave me had FAR too much water. The next drink, I asked the bartender for a scotch and water, but just a splash of water, and you'd have thought, by the look he gave me, that it was some outlandish request. Then I asked him that if he couldn't do that to bring me my scotch in the same size glass, and bring me a shot of water on the side. He still was bug eyed at the request. I don't remember how it turned out, just his reaction to the request.
I don't know that I ever heard about doing it anywhere, but I just decided I liked my scotch with a bit of water at a very young age (18*). I like that, to chase the serpents away. I need to remember that. :-)
*Hey, I was able to die any day and find myself anywhere on the planet in 24 hrs, was getting paid hazardous duty pay, and I wasn't a lush. But I did like having a toddy before bed as I read or studied. Back then the base liquor store had Chivas Regal for a few $ per bottle so I was good, at least when I wasn't drinking the excellent wines and beer made where I was stationed.

The Dewars Ancestor 12 yr, passed the wee dram test. It's a keeper.
So many great scotches, only one liver. That's my way of saying that I didn't do a side by each taste test. Just pass/fail. It's a very nice scotch.

Very cool...I definitely want to try it....I mean, that commercial with Connery is about the coolest alcohol beverage commercial I've ever seen...Any company hip enough to come up with that deserves at least a second thought.... Then upon giving it a second thought I read reviews where folks I respect say its as good or better than JW Black for $8 to $10 less.... Then you give it your thumbs up......
I need to pick up a bottle...If it doesn't compare to the Glenlivet 12 to drink neat...I know it will be great in a hot tea toddy by the fireplace....And I'm pretty sure it will be great "neat" aswell....Jason Debly the whisky critic, said it had an excellent finish...in a class with a whisky in the over $100 a bottle bracket...
I'll drop a review and we can compare our ideas on this 12 year old...hopfully by Thanksgiving at the latest...That might be a good meal to follow with this.....Thoughts?

Grrrr.......I still can't get White Horse.....there is no distributor for WA, and no one seems to ship it here to WA... I have one other resourse, I just thought of....There is an Arabic cat here in town who owns a local licquor store...He's been making waves by getting stuff in that others can't....I'll sound him, the forst of the week....If he can't.....Then I might have to make a trip back east.....};^D
Thats my usual M-O......spend a $1000s on a trip to cop my favorite inexpensive Scotch....LMAO!!!!
