I spent all my current razor money on the ER lather catcher I just got, One day though maybe. Lovin the oldies! Worth every penny. This General is a nice looking item though. Oldies are awesome. And I agree on the General. Great looking razor.

It has arrived. It weighs in at 4.6 ounces (130 grams) which is nearly 3 times the weight of the aluminum version. It's heavier than an ATT SE1 or Asylum Rx (both around 3.9 oz) and approaching the 5 ounce weight of a stainless Mongoose 2. The brass is unfinished and is already showing some tarnish. Colonial Razors recommends letting it develop a natural patina, but I don't know - as a Navy veteran I have this overwhelming urge to polish anything brass. It feels quite solid in the hand. The solid handle is roughly a quarter inch shorter than the aluminum version and is a plain cylinder, rather than tapered like the aluminum handle. The head appears to be identical to the aluminum General, although the anodized finish on the aluminum model adds a few thousandths to the dimensions. Not surprisingly the shave is not all that different from the aluminum General, especially since I have heavier stainless steel handles on my aluminum models. The additional weight increases the perceived aggressiveness slightly, and yet also increases the smoothness. The handle has no grooves or knurling and I was afraid it would be slippery. While I didn't drop it, it didn't feel as secure in my hand as I would have liked. I buy the Feather Professional blades in bulk from Japan and use them almost exclusively in all of these razors. So far I've had all of one shave with the brass General, so my opinions are very much subject to revision, but I like this razor a lot. It retains everything I like about the aluminum Generals while the added weight of the head improves the balance compared to an aluminum model with a stainless steel handle. All that unfinished brass is just begging to be plated with something. Yeah, I like these razors. --Bob

After your review and few others, I think this razor is going on number 1 of my wish list!

Here is the brass General with a custom handle. This handle is only 2 3/4" long (70 mm) and makes the overall size of the razor about the same as a 1912 or 1924. Well, except for the width . . . I hit the cap with a bit of Maas - couldn't help myself. It does shine up nicely. --Bob

Ok... sound interesting... Coming Soon in 316L!Hello All, We are writing to you now with much excitement and we hope you share in our excitement once you read why we are emailing you now. Since the release of The General in aluminum, we have been asked by many customers when are we going to release it in stainless steel. We knew in order to remain more competitive in the Artist Club single edge market, we needed to release a stainless steel version. Today, we are proud to unveil to you all The General in 316L stainless steel! This version of The General weighs approximately 123 grams. It has been a joy to use over the last few days and believe many will enjoy it as well. Over the past few months, we have followed threads on the shaving forums about the brass version and how many would like to see a knurled handle from us. Prior to releasing the 316L version, we have asked our machine shop to provide us a new handle design for assessment. This new handle will be 12.20 mm diameter, 85 mm long, and have a diamond knurled portion. If the knurled handle passes our inspection, all 316L stainless steel razors will be released with this handle. When you look at the stainless steel artist club razor market, most razors are priced at $185+ and do not provide a better shave than The General. Our 316L version will be priced at an incredible $59.99 + shipping. We expect to release this version in mid to late September and hope to earn your business! We will send out updates through this newsletter as we near the official release. Kind Regards, Kirk and Kyle Evans Colonial Razors
