I have collected some GEM AND ER razors, if I see a good deal, i get it... I am now using theses razors, so far the gem 1912 and FW have worked great and hold in the blade snug! Now, I want to use the 1917-1919 (ER) "1914" Marked "Ever Ready" Patented March 24/14..... the one i have looks nice and the door closes tight and looks nice and even. it seems that the modern se blade is smaller than the original blades? the space is bigger.. so once blade is loaded i can push the blade back a little? i shave a little on my leg and it seems functional. is this normal? does the blade always slide back a little once the door is shut

If I remember right there is a spring in the head that holds the blade forward. How easy is it to move the blade around?

It has nothing to do with the size of the blade. Look at the bunny ears inside the cap. They may be bent or missing entirely. And no defenitely not normal

The bunny ears are called "guiding brackets" ↪ in the patent. Would a ↪ shim help to push the blade against the bunny ear brackets and secure it better?

I shaved with my 1914, it certainly has some miles and has live a life... the shave was mind blowing,1st off it was the most audible shave I may have ever had with one day growth... ZERO drag! i obviously am very new to these se razors. i have been using injectors and de razors. but this 1914 was love at 1st "Stroke" also i have found the carbon blades are much smoother and dig deeper than the other blades every body uses- ptfe or something....

Well, I come to the thread late. I was elsewhere when it was happening. I was going to suggest bending the spring very gently, but since you got it done and the spring survives you did it correctly. So I suppose I'm writing this for other folks who might be lurking.

Lovely 1914, pleased you got it working. I just wish that we, UK members had easier access to these alternative blades.
