Whew, I'm glad I was out on this topic. His royal Highness Fuzzy may just have to go ahead and invest in the commercial grade brick mold..

Will it be a Bakelite brick I don't know what ordinaryshaver is talking about, maybe he's just having one of those overly sensitive moments. But I like Bakelite!

Well now that I've had a few shaves with it, I don't think it's a keeper. It doesn't seem to shave very close at all. Lots of passes and buffing to get anywhere. The other BIGGER factor is blade life or shall we say, lack thereof.
With a two pass shave I can get 1.5 shaves out of one blade, if I'm lucky. Sometimes the blade won't make it through the first pass of shave two. I've heard these blades were short lived, but didn't realize how short. Couple that with their cost and it's pretty crazy.
I will say it's mild and for someone just starting out, it ain't gonna bite. To me the blades just don't feel all that sharp. Feather blades are normally some of the sharpest around so I'd say the problem is one of design and angle. I really don't care for the ergonomics. The handle is not that comfortable and the edges should be finished better. Nothing some 1500 and 2500 grit wouldn't fix, but that's not MY job.

The Feather FHS-10 Blades are not up to the task like the Feather unmentionable blades. They don't last for more than 2 shaves for me in a newer model Valet Autostrop with blade pins which is what the blade cutouts were originally designed to be compatible with, also I understand Feather made an Autostrop blade type razor themselves at one time. Pretty ridiculous for a stainless blade to be so short lived at the price they are. It would make more sense for ONEBLADE to make a razor that uses GEM SS blades which are far superior in sharpness, lifespan and price.

Except that I think part of their profit strategy is essentially being the US supplier of those blades. You can get them a little cheaper online from overseas, but I think the domestic sales are all via OneBlade. But I do agree the Gem blades are superior in every way.

You could be right that it's all about selling the consumables. They have a 2 month subscribe & save plan service "For incredible shaves and great savings, get a 2-month supply of Feather FHS-10 blades (30-pack / 2-3+ shaves per blade)" At least they're upfront about the limited lifespan of a blade.

This thread is much appreciated. I recently had a chance to pick up the OneBlade for a discounted price, and just passed on it since I'm more vintage than modern -- and I've rarely heard good things about AC blades (especially the Feathers). Anyway, thank you both for reaffirming my decision -- I get annoyed if I get less than 10 shaves on a blade....I can't imagine getting less than 3.

I originally though it was as well. It's takes the same size blades as the common Gem razors. The only difference is there is no spin on the blade and there are notches in it just below where the spine would be. Nothing wrong with Gem razors at all, but I do like the shorter (height-wise) Injector and AC format blades as I think it helps around the nose and other tight areas vs a full height blade such as the Gem. We're I the designer of a modern SE razor, I'd try to use the AC or Injector blades I think because of the maneuverability, thought the AC blades have more width than an injector blade. Personally, I've not found the width to be an issue, but some may well prefer a less wide blade. This image shows the blade the OneBlade uses (on the left)

ATT have made a Mingoose Razor that uses this blade so it has a narrower head. There is also the Supply Injector that uses these blades.

While I've still got tons to learn on GEMs, Injectors and various Lather Catchers, I clearly know zero about modern razors. Thanks again!

But the Injector is just a type of AC?

Whereas the AC blades were designed to go into straight Razors [Artist Club] associated with the hairdressing trade in the Far East, then they were used in the Original AC/ SE Razors i.e. The Cobra And Mongoose. It was only when I and a few others thought it might be possible to use the smaller Type B in injectors that their use became quite common. They are a Tad longer than the Standard Injector blades, but that does not cause any problems. PS It is worth looking at the Forum section on "Blades", as there is a lot of info on the subject.

So this week I traveled and had the One Blade Core as my razor. I've used it all week long. After " cracking the code" on this razor, I have been extremely pleased with it. It is, without exception, MY FAVORITE RAZORAfter I did four shaves on the blade, I put in another blade. One each shave, I turn the blade over. In other words each side gets used twice. I had no issues this time. The blade seemed almost as sharp as shave one for shave, two, three and four. What absolutely amazes me about this razor is that I have zero irritation and am able to get a very close shave. My best and closest shave with it came with the Duke Cannon shaving cream which does not lather and only gives you slickness. That makes sense as cream with a lot of cushion is going to make it harder for the blade to contact your skin or shave as close. I'm able to go WTG, ATG, XTG or any direction I please and have no issues. I've not even been able to make the bottom of my neck sore, which is where the hair grows upward and very close to the skin. I get my best result there doing a 1/2 XTG 1/2 ATG stroke as the first pass and then ATG as a final pass. I've tried other formats and like SE the best and I've used some that have given very close shaves and very comfortable shaves, but none of them have been as consistently comfortable as the OneBlade has. In the past a razor I get a DFS with one day can leave me a bit tender on another day. Not so with the core, I've not been able to get anything but a nice feel post shave. I'm done looking for my favorite razor. It's been found. Though I did decide to order up a refurbished Hybrid to have the steel head. I've changed my tune, eaten crow and am duly impressed. I'll still use my other Gem's and Injectors, but the OneBlade is going to get the bulk of the duty due to the results it produces. I am going to track blade use on this for awhile, seeing if I can go beyond 4. Stopped at four on the last blade simply because I was flying out that day and didn't want to leave a blade in the razor, it may have had more shaves in it, I dunno. One shave from a blade of this cost is really unacceptable fro me, but two shaves from a blade for me is acceptable, though not optimal. If I can get 4 shaves a blade as I just did that would be great. I'm not trying to be the guy that only spends 8 bucks a year to shave. I think one blade per shave is really too expensive, on the other hand I own two soaps that were $25 a pop, so it's not exactly like I'm shaving on the cheap, so why should blade cost matter that much IF the shave I get is exceptional? I think it shouldn't.
