Let's see what TOSTers like. What is your favorite knot for the lather maker?

:-) There should be another category; "What I'm using today". I use all 4 and I have no favorites.

No big deal; I didn't expect you to. I have no doubt that others will have preferences. I also have no doubt that I'd be in the minority. I just accept brushes for what they are and I enjoy their differences. (just discussing brushes here and nothing else)
I thought about the poll and I thought that I might prefer what I started with, boar. But that just isn't the case. It's definitely the brush I'm presently using.
Now if I was shaving under adverse conditions, hands down I'd choose synthetic with a syn' handle and hope that the manufacturer used synthetic glue. I never would have considered writing that not many years ago, but things changed rapidly. But that doesn't make it my favorite brush type. It's just one of the 4.

But I use the others plenty too. Just started on the synthetics. They work ok too.

Synths for sure: better lather with less soap, and excellent both face and bowl lathering.

Synths for sure: better lather with less soap, and excellent both face and bowl lathering. I hear that alot these days. I like my tuxedo knot. Just starting to learn it.

Look, this morning I used a VigShaving 26mm Finest Badger, which I enjoyed very much. But to get the amount of lather I wanted, I had to use approx 3 times the soap needed to get the same lather with my Plissoft Monster, which is also 26mm....

I voted "synthetic" simply because they are affordable, easy to maintain, make much better lather for less money than any badger brush. But my favourite brushes are still handcrafted silvertip badger brushes. If that sounds schizophrenic, it isn't. My favourite synthetic cost less than 10$, my favourite badger brushes start at $150...

SD nails it once again....I love my omega boar for its scritchiness, my boars for their soft airy thing...and in Turkey every Barber uses horse hair and those brushes were incredible....but they were big paint brush handle styles....and the ones I checked out were already broken in...I picked up one while I was there...but the one I picked up smelled so bad....it got served its walking papers by my family...lol!!! I'd like to try a smaller more refined one...maybe one of those beautiful Vie Long horsers... Might have to make that acquisition...Maybe that would win me over into the Horse Camp... So....now I don't have a fav...but I'm hoping a new vie long might change that!

You like the shorter or higher loft?

Both....But not the real long....Probably shorter....Looks like most of the Vie-long's are close to the same length...They have one with the real long, kind of barber shop size...But when I use one of those I end up with lather all over my face, mirror, sink, medicine cabinet, Floors, Walls, everywhere.....Yeah...I probably should stick with the shorter, I can't be trusted with the longer lofts...lol!!
I know I'm gonna love the horse...I certainly was knocked out by the Turkish Barbers' Horse Brushes....I've just never had the chance to really try one...I told you about that one....rotflmao! But that was a no name huge brush bought at a Turkish Bazaar....If you saw that brush from another room, you might think a pony had gotten into the bathroom....}8^)) You know some horse brushes say "1/2 mane, 1/2 tail hair"....well this one said "the whole tail!!!!"
I think a smaller or medium, normal size will break-in much easier, scent-wise....that huge one almost got ME thrown out of the house...But I love the smell of horses....that perticular brush I think maybe wasn't cured right...It didn't smell like any horses I've ever owned....It was more like a wet St Bernard that hadn't ever been bathed or brushed....lol

I love the feel of my boar brushes. That said I begrudgingly use synthetics when my Boar fails to work on a particular soap. Tom

Well right now, all I have, are a couple of gifted Vintage Stag refurbs by Gary Carrington....One has a medium size loft and the other is a travel size...They both are Badgers and although I love the skritch of the boars; these guys are like shaving in paradise....I've piffed everything else...I guess theres a message in there somewhere...
So I'm going to go ahead and vote for badger...
then if/when I score a horse...If I like it better...And think that it's nice I'll vote for it twice......to nullify my badger vote and score 1for the ponies...};^D
But in all fairness...if a horse brush is going to displace my badgers...it will deserve 2 votes...cause the badgers are kind of heavenly.....
