ThursdayBecker scuttle Homemade frankincense & myrrh preshave oil Somerset Simpson Harvard 5 Best brush QCS Basilica shaving cream soap Gem Featherweight SE razor Gem Stainless blade (1) Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme aftershave balm An interesting first experience with the SE razor. It was awkward at first for me to find the right angle, but eventually I was able to do it with all strokes. The Looks blade didn't cut at all - I suspect it may be a box cutter blade - so I switched to a Gem, which was much better. The process wasn't aided by the QCS soap, which for me isn't the best around, with little cushion. I got a few nicks, but finally I got a BBS shave, and the D&G soothed everything nicely. I'll try again tomorrow, with one of the high end British creams.

(Thumb up smilie goes here)
Well, I'd claim that as a successful shave then I guess John. You did walk away.
Yes the angle is quite different, but pretty much all SE razors will talk to you when they're working right. Some are louder than others.
A BBS on a first shave... not too shabby.
How did you like the razor itself as far as aggressiveness?

Glad to see you switched out the 'box cutter'. Ouch! Some SE blades can really be just awful for shaving. Nothing worse if you ask me than dragging a nasty edged blade across my soft, girly skin! Homemade frankincense and myrhh preshave oil --- do tell!!!

FridayGeorgetown scuttle Homemade frankincense & myrrh preshave oil Simpsons 57 "Douglas" Super brush Edwin Jagger Sea Buckthorn shaving cream Gem Featherweight SE razor Gem Stainless blade (2) Floris Elite aftershave balm A great shave. I have to say that this SE shaving has grown on me very fast. Even with the relatively mild Featherweight, with which I can vary the pressure quite a lot, I got a fast BBS shave, with just a couple small nicks. I've ordered a bunch of SE blades from Connaught, since I have quite a few other SE razors to try. Probably a 1912 next.

The Clog-Pruf and Bullet-tip are two of my favorite razors.

Friday EveningMoss scuttle Homemade frankincense & myrrh preshave oil Somerset Simpson Special Pure brush Houbigant Fougere Royale shaving soap Gem Featherweight SE razor Gem Stainless blade (3) Houbigant Fougere Royale aftershave I've decided to start shaving twice a day (most days), for a couple reasons. One, I like feeling smoother for whatever the evening activity is, and two, I just like shaving. This was a great shave. The Houbigant products are wonderful, and I'm learning to find the "singing" angle of the SE blade.

Saturday AMBecker scuttle Homemade frankincense & myrrh preshave oil Somerset Simpson Commodore X3 Best brush Ralph Lauren Safari shaving soap Gem Featherweight SE razor Gem Stainless blade (4) Ralph Lauren Safari aftershave balm Once again I'm BBS. The old RL soap is great; I think it must be tallow based. I can't say that the SE shave is getting boring, but at least I'm losing the thrill of feeling sure that I'm going to cut myself.

John, if the thrill is gone (there oughta be a song...) maybe it's time to up the ante with the MM or the 1912?
Not trying to push you. You'll know when you're ready. Actually IMO, that jump is significant.
Same angles involved, just make sure technique is 100%. After a bit you'll get accustomed to them and you'll use them as though they are no more aggressive than the FW.
