[li]Do not write off a razor after just one shave. Come back to it after a while. 9 times out of 10 it was technique that was bad not the razor. Wise words! It happened to me a few times.

21 Aug 2017Todays shave is brought to in part by: SGT FuzzySoap: Smolder by Blades Grim(homemade stick)Brush: JR #180 Badger, 3 BandRazor: GEM Flying Wing/Bullet Tip MicroMatic (FWMM), on loan from Sgt FuzzyBlade: PAL(same one as before)Post-Shave: Pinaud Clubman Finest TalcPhoto:So today I won't bore you with the details of the soap as I have already given my review of the Blades Grim soap. What I will say about it today is that it gave me a very thick lather on face lathering. Like putting mud up on sheet rock. What I first noticed about the Flying Wing was how much it resembled the Clog Pruf in its head geometry. When I compared the two side by side they looked the same. There was only two differences that I could see. One being, is the bottom twist part of the handle. On the CP, it flares out ever-so-slightly where on the FW it comes back in. Giving it it's nick name of Bullet Point. I would venture to guess. The other difference that I saw was on the safety bar. Hopefully that is the proper name of the piece of the razor. Now I don't know if it is a difference in time period of manufacturing or a difference in styles but my CP has twelve countable humps/teeth. On the FW I tried to count but was unable to get an accurate count. As seen in the photos below.
I know these are not the best of pictures for doing a side by side but I am at work, "Working" and don't have the razors with me. I honestly didn't know this review was going to here a head of time so I did not take proper pictures. I can take pictures later and edit this post at that time.
As this was my first shave with the razor it was just a time to say hello and introduce our self's to one another. The shave was smooth as expected from a close relative to the CP. I did a two pass shave with some touch up along my jaw line.
To finish up today's shave after a cold water raise to get the soap off and then towel dried, I chose to use the Clubman Talc. The talc is something I picked up from my barber. He would always put it on the back of my neck at the end of my hair cut. I got a bottle of it when I started wet shaving 6 yrs ago.

23 Aug 2017 Todays shave is brought to you in part by: SGT FuzzyPre-Shave: Hot Shower Soap: Arko Wednesday (I have to pickup a puck of Williams) Brush: JR #180 Badger, 3 Band Razor: GEM Flying Wing/Bullet Tip MicroMatic (FWMM), on loan from Sgt Fuzzy Blade: PAL(same one as before) Post-Shave: Pinaud Clubman Finest Talc Photo: Today's shave was pre-planned so that I could get the picture. I normally do not pre-plan my shaves so it felt kind of odd having to shave with what I choose the day before. I usually just grab what ever suits my fancy at that time. Now on to the shave. Today's shave was again very mild. Was it the well used blade or the razor? I do not know. I do know that today's shave was an all around good shave. It did leave a few spots that could be improved but did not leave any irritation. My next shave I will use a Treet blade that has no more than 3 shaves on it just to see the difference that makes in the shave. My last post I stated the differences between the CP and the FW but did not have good photos for comparison. I now have that comparison photo. This photo also shows the razors in levels of aggressiveness. From most aggressive to mildest/left to right. IMHO, right now, though I reserve the right to reevaluate this lineup at a later time. To sum it all up the Flying Wing is another razor that will have a place in my den. It may not have a place in my standard rotation but will stay in the den as an example of a very mild razor. It is also one that I will force my 18yr old son to use before I send it back to its owner. There are two of my coworkers that I have recently introduced to wet shaving that I would like them to try a FW once. I will wait to do this until I get one of my own though. One of them had a bad case of razor burn on his neck from an unmentionable I gave him. I do believe that he will benefit from the mildness of the FW. As always no animals where harmed in the making of this review.

At this point I live vicariously through exploits such as this. It's been a long time for some us when we were actively exploring the SE world. It's why I find the posts of the razors that the members find so interesting also.

Pre-Shave: Hot Shower Soap: Lilac Shave Stick, Mystic Water Soap Brush: Synthetic, Maseto Shaving (MS) Razor: GEM Flying Wing/Bullet Tip MicroMatic (FWMM), on loan from Sgt Fuzzy Blade: Treet (3rd/4th shave) Post-Shave: Rose Petal, Thayers WH Photo:
Today's shave started of with a great lather from the MW stick. I had worked a good lather up then add just a little more water to the brush and BAM I had lather all over. It was great. I don't know what to blame the last lackluster shave on, the razor, the age of the blade, or technique. So I changed out the blade this morning and went with the Treet blade. It was not a "new" blade, it had about 4 shaves on it. If you could draw any answers on the cause of the last shave from today's it was NOT the razor. Today's shave left me very impressed with the FWMM. Two passes with a little touch up along the jaw line and I have as close to BBS as can be. If the FWMM was the only razor I could use the rest of my life and got todays results I would be a very happy man.
The hard part now is trying to decide what razor is coming out of my normal rotation set to make room for this one? Do I keep both the CPMM and the FWMM in the rotation set? The questions are mute though as I have a new razor I have to try. I recently received a Valet VB2 that I am getting blades for. Thanks riverrun on the heads up across the street on the blades. It look interesting and I can't wait to take it for a spin. With the permission of the FWMM owner I would like to hang on to it just a tad bit longer if I may.

Hi Garner PW, The MICROMATICS are my favorite razors. When you think about most of the other razors offered at the time of their inception the MMs sure seem high tech. They are also extremely well built. There was a thread similar to this about 7 years ago on the old TOS site. In it I wrote:
"All I can say is that if you plan on trying a MM, especially an OC, be sure to view Mr Guy's video. It shows how to hold the razor and proper razor angle to the face. There are many people that the MM will not work for, no matter what. However, I think some that try and give up before finishing the first shave due to numerous cuts may not have been using the razor correctly. You owe it to yourself to try one because if it works for you, you will love it."
I think that advice still holds. Hmmm...wonder what ever happened to Mr Guy? Anyway, that gold CP you have is the first gold 12 tooth I have seen. I heard they existed but hadn't actually seen one. All my 12 tooths are chrome. All my gold CPs have 17 teeth. As far as blades go I prefer the Treet carbons. The Pella stainless blades just don't seem smooth to me. Don't give up on that CP.
