I posted this on the "Favorite Lather Maker" poll thread...But upon further examination...I think.....no I'm sure this deserves it's own thread.
Looked what the cat dragged in....The cat being me...since I'm the cat who went to the mail-box yesterday....
Not long ago, I was waxing poetic about my expectations for Horse Hair as a brush choice. I was going on about Turkish Barbers being famous for their shaving prowess, and how they will only use horse hair. I have shaved myself in a Turkish Barber shop using their brush and sxxvexxe (unmentionable)..and loved both...But I've only had one Horse hair brush of my own. It was a huge Turkish Barber style and after the Maiden Voyage it smelled so bad, my in-laws (who I was visiting at the time) asked if I could leave it out on the balcony over night ....So in the interests of being a thoughtful guest, I put it in the trash bin outside...The neighborhood cats screamed so much that night, there were remarks around the breakfast table about maybe I should have put it in a zip-lock freezer bag before putting it in the trash...lmao!! MY WIFE was probably right...ha,ha,ha...
So Fuzzy out of the goodness of his heart or whiskers, offered to send me one of his Vie-longs to try, as I mentioned wanting one. Well I thanked him, but declined his offer at this time....Well, as you can see...he insisted..ha,ha...
Alrighty then....To make a long story longer...Today I shaved with it...and although I do appreciate the thoughtful gesture of LOANING me this brush....It might be sometime before the Fuzz-Man get to see this guy again...It immediately has become my favorite brush!! I'm glad this brush is so readily available or else I might have to consider brushnapping and going on the lamb....
Reasons:
1. Check out how great the metal on the handle goes with my favorite razor...
2. Lathers all my soaps like crazy!
3. Even softer than my Badger!
4. Perfect amount of backbone, even though the loft is high!
5. Long Loft so can lather soap like crazy and fingers are still dry.
6. The way the hairs perform...Even with the longer hairs, this brush is very accurate with where it puts the lather...Like an artist's paint brush. I could apply a thick lather while wearing a dress shirt and necktie and not misplace a drop of lather...lol! I really love this..normally I only get this kind of close-in accuratcy with a small travel boar.
7. The absolute perfect amount of scritch...actually when playing with it yesterday, I was expecting a scritch monster, which sometimes I dig. But today I was surprised...Actually very, very soft...But if I dab straight on...I know it's there...Perfecto for a daily driver!
8. Handle is perfect shape for a good grip.
Fuzzy also sent me a few shakes worth of Clubman Musk, because I had asked him what it was like...
I used that today aswell...actually I do love it....It smells great! I wish it was stronger! It has the base of the original Clubman with a light sweet air of musk...I will be ordering some on-line..I did end up layering it with the Original to amp up the powder a hair...}8^)) I'm thinking if I mixed the Original 2/3s to 1/6 AV Musk and 1/6 Clubman Vanilla...It might be the same frag but about twice as strong...I'm gonna keep some if this as a 'control'. And I'll try that combination and then compare...I'll report back on that....
Thanks Fuzzy....So Very Very Thoughtful of you to surprise me like this....I was kidding about the brush napping....But all other opinions were honest and not exaggerated...
I'm going to change my vote on the "Favorite Lather Maker" Poll....and I can do this with a clear conscience...I do like all the brush types I have tried that were well made and didn't shed...Can't stand shedding....I've loved my Badgers, My Omega Travel Boar (which I no longer have), but this Vie Long Horse is the Cat's Meow! Unless it starts shedding like crazy...It's my favorite hands down! And it does what my Badger does that I like, aswell as my Badger....And it does what my Boar did, aswell as my boar did it....It's like the "Goldilocks Brush"...The best of both Worlds...
