Had meant to do a follow-up on this one, but it slipped under the radar. I picked up a "later" 1914 a month or so ago, the one with the larger hook-type blade stops. It immediately produced wonderfully smooth, efficient results. Never had a shave this nice with a 1914. I now see why some speak so highly of these razors! Still have the "early" 1914 with the smaller nub-type blade stops, though they're a bit worn. Anyone want to roll the dice on a PIF of this one? I have a couple of the 14s...I will have to check and see which blade stops they have. Both give great shaves. I like the 1914 more then the 1924s myself. GarnerPW have you used any of the 1914s yet? If not your in for a treet.

In doing a quick side by side comparison, the blade on the "early" 1914 with nub-type blade stops sits JUST a shade more proud than the blade on the "later" version I recently picked up. The blade is still firmly behind the stops, just a touch more exposure that my face can quickly distinguish. Razor is headed to GarnerPW for his review and analysis.

I'll follow this thread very attentively... The 1914 is on my radar.

Quite possibly the worst SE I’ve used. Give me a Push Button before this thing. I found it inefficient yet rough. Love the ER 1924 though-very efficient yet smooth. All I use is injectors these days though.

Yeah, it is more aggressive for me, too, but I find that "riding the cap" tames it down quite a bit.

I love both too....Both are more agressive than my MMOC...The '14 is the Wild-Child though. The way that handle connects to the head and the LC type construction...makes for a very tactile ride...You can feel and hear every whisker getting whacked...First stroke I ever took with one, scared me! I though it was going to fly out of my hand...I could feel the contact surface so much through the handle....It's a Party Razor...Blast from the Past....One of my all time faves...
Definitely related to the Lather Catcher Family....Although my ER Lather Catcher is like the '14 on steroids....But the '14 is the cross-over razor....I think it's a must have for all who like to have a fun time shaving!!

The 1915 pat date Kampfe/Star is fun too.

Great looking '14, jayaruh! A workhorse, for sure. PIF'd '14 departed today for GarnerPW. Looks identical to Jim's above.

All I use is injectors these days though. Hmm. I can't imagine it rough unless the razor frame was not holding the blade fully secured. I've seen 1914s with problems there. The frame is also fairly easily bent. Then again a lot folks find the MMOC rough which I don't get either.

GarnerPW, I saw your post across the street at TSD regarding your shave with the '14. I had similar results, though I always used a SS PTFE blade. I'm certain this thing will produce excellent results, but the window for success seems much smaller than with other SEs (including the later 1914, with larger hook-style blade stops). theshaveden.com/forums/threads/gem-pal-blade-tests.58702/

Great razor though that is veddy under rated at times.
