Also they had a GEM micromatic open comb for $7 but the silo door on top was loose. I am guessing that is a pain to repair? or impossible?

If I may. I would pass on the micro. As for the stripper, they are just plain cool. I tried sharpening old blades and Stropping them. It works ok. Really too time consuming. I would see if you could bundle the stripper, Featherweight and brush. All 3 for $35 or so is a fair deal. By all means if it is more. Pay it. Featherweights run $5-10 brushes same range. Talk to the seller and see what happens.
Keep us posted.

I ahree stropper is just for looks. I like that brush. Easy refurb. I would have to try the soap, and would not refinish the bowl myself. It is too easy to find a decent OCMM...I would not bother with a damaged one myself. With the rolls it would be nice to know if the hone and strop sides are ok. twhite has one on a pass around I think. I need to get a blade honed for mine.

The Rolls, once the blade is made shave worthy, gives a nice shave. It's basically a (razor I can't mention) with a hoe type handle. After the shave the face might not feel like a BBS, but 20 minutes after the shave, and after the hairs retreat back into their sheaths the true shave is felt.

The unmentionable had a handle that seemed to be spray pained black and was not crazy about it but wife was exited she found it even after I told her I had a couple of examples already.........so I bought it. Turns out to be original handle...Canadian version not seen often from late 30's.... So then I am excited a bit by it...and wife says I should bow and kiss her feet due to my lack of enthusiasm initially. The blades I paid $4 a box for, a little more than I liked but what the heck. The stropper and Rolls are still there. I wanted to do a little research before I pulled the trigger. That old stropper is really calling my name. Loudly!

If the hone and strop on the Rolls are in good shape it's worth picking up for others here even if you don't want it. Typically the strop has gouges in it and if they aren't too deep they can be sanded out. But a broken hone is useless.
When I was on my Rolls kick I bought maybe 1/2 a dozen very inexpensive Rolls kits to get the parts needed for a working set. I wanted spares also because I and another gent on the forum were experimenting with maintaining one and I had no idea what I would need. I wanted parts on hand. Back then I would just follow a mess of auctions and if no one bid on one I would swoop in and get it for not much money. I don't know if that's possible today. You only need one sound stone. If you follow what Marcus and I figured out you won't use the actual stone surface anyway. It'll just be a base for different grades of wet or dry paper and lapping film.

I don't know about the GEM Stropper but I have an Ever Ready Stropping Machine and use it often. I found it prolonged the life of my CS blades. Fuzzy had different results but I will continue to use mine. If you have a strop that will fit the GEM Stropper you can't lose. If you use it and find it helps prolong the blade life you are saving money by making your blades last longer. If not you have a nice display piece. Win. Win. In my book.

Going back today to check out hone and leather strop....and to see if it has a handle. Don't recall it having one attached to strop handle and I see from researching a bit it could be tucked in a side compartment. Did not really know what I was looking at initially and was having a hard time imagining how one would shave with that set up I was seeing(the blade attached to stropping mechanism before I knew what it was)

I went back today and got the stropper. The Rolls is missing the handle for razor but the stone is not broken and the strop looks to be in good shape other than dried out. It does have the blade and is in the original box(it is frayed and worn)I can get it for $15.80 if anybody is interested in parts. Or does anyone have a line on a handle I could buy?

Dang! That's one part that I don't have working spares of. I do have a spare but it's "frozen". I'll see what I can do to free it up tomorrow. I'll let you know if I can. It might take time for the skunk piss to soak in and I'm not going to hurry it. It could take days, but I'll start on it tomorrow. In the meantime maybe someone has one that's working?
For $16 with both sides in good shape it's a steal. The stone is the part that is most often screwed up and can't be salvaged.
Does it have any blades?
