I recieved a tin of this soap from Zykris with the Pif i won. This is a very interesting soap, from what i can tell from the little info I found was that its made in scotland. The scent is very hard to explain, the best way I can explain it is a citrus initial scent followed by a old beer after scent, this one is hard to nail down. Lathering it was a little difficult, at first you start thinking that its not going to work, i never got a fluffy lather from it, as far as the shave went it worked fine even with its lack of visible fluffy looking lather. It had a decent aftershave feel, was not drying. My over all thoughts for this soap- its the pergatory of soaps, every step if the way it feels like its not going to work, but then in the end it worked fine, the scent is really difficult one minute I liked it, the next you dont. The next soap i tried this week was the deluxe puck from vdh, i always assumed it was the same as luxury, but found out recently the two are different. I found one at save mart in the kit with the bowl and brush for $8 and picked up a second single puck for 1.50. I really like this soap, its far better then luxury, it lathered easy, performed well. I really enjoyed the scent. The luxury is alright, not bad but i never really got into it, i will definately keep a puck of it around. Both shaves were done with my GEM SE cvs blade(3) the dalvey was lathered with my omega boar and the vdh with the brush that came in the kit, both followed up with aqua velva AS.

The VDH Deluxe is great. If you can hunt up a cake of the VDH Select you will like it too. The Luxury is a good soap but all around I prefer the other too. People poopoo the VDH boar. I think it is a solid brush for the price! Thanks for the review!

The VDH Deluxe is the soap I started on when I got back into wet shaving. It is a decent soap. I used up several pucks.

At first i thought the brush was only going to last one shave, it was shedding a lot, but it seems to have stopped but I like it as long as it holds up. I had a cheap one i bought at walmart in the 90s that last me 10 years before the knot fell out, so i have had good luck with cheap brushes. I will see if i can find the select.
