A recent post by TobyC really got me thinking. Why do we put the open comb name with the original Micro Matic. It was just the GEM Micro Matic. The next model was Micro Matic Clog Pruf then the Micro Matic Flying Wing/Guiding eye. As he pointed out just saying Micro Matic would mean the original with no need for the OC. What say TOST? The true way to tell is to find original advertising. The makers are the ones that get to choose the names. Very true. All the ads just say Micromatic. No mention of OC un the name at all. A lot of the other ads do say clog-pruf and flying wing or guiding eye. I have a couple in cases and the case will point it out also on some.

I'm with you....The OC probably never showed up untill the Shsving Forums 20 years ago...So the first 60/70 years no "Open Comb" in the title...makes since to me!

Hardly any razor we talk about was called what we call it today. Star HR-14B? Ever-Ready 1912? 1914? 1924? Micromatic OC? Schick H1? Hardly. Sticking with what the manufacturers called their razors will lead to utter confusion.
I will still refer to my Schick H1 as the "Eversharp Fashion Razor". As intended. Sounds better.

Whats wrong with "The Hussy"?
