I do less passes now and stopped chasing the baby. Actually getting better shave with less passes....I'd call that experience I guess. I'll second this motion. I've moved to a 2 pass shave, previously having done 3+ passes. One WTG pass and one ATG pass. Smooth and irritation-free now. Looking back, I spent a LOAD of time on those early shaves! Tried every trick and suggestion that came up on the forums. But, I guess that's how you find out what works for you and what doesn't. Well said. Sometimes that learning curve is sharp.

But think about how much fun you had learning!

As for many I think improvements in technique have changed my routine. I have gradually found I prefer a more aggressive razor with longer strokes and less passes. I saw an advert for a modern plastic unthinkable unmentionable (OS was here) razor on Facebook the other day, showing a close up of a guy hacking at a few days growth with loads of pressure and 10mm strokes, an advert! It made me feel a little queasy, probably because that was me a few years ago. Do you find that you like more "blade feel" as well? The more I use so called agressive razors, I have come to like more blade feel on my shaves.

I agree with that. I for one enjoyed reading your post as you were coming along with your technique!! Keep at it my friend. The only way to know for sure is to try things out. Keep on Keeping on. Yes , you are one who watched me from the start and also gave me some of the best advise . Thanks for your patience answering my many questions along the way! You are a great mentor my friend. Glad I could help a little along the waym

So far overall, I would say I focus less on the shave which makes my technique more fluid from muscle memory instead of overthinking angle, etc. Also, I never go ATG anymore.

I've only been traditional shaving for a lil over a year but I would say the few things that have changed for me are improved technique and less passes. I used to do 3 passes and touch ups, now I just do 2 and touch ups. I don't chase BBS anymore. I still can improve but this has made a huge difference for me.

As I have long said in my videos and in my posts, sometimes chasing the baby, is what leads to bad habits and irritation. I find that when I am happy with the results of even a 2 pass shave, that my skin is better, and the technique is also better. I can get a BBS, but it ain't something I have to have any more. If I'm doing just a quick weekday morning shave I'll hit it with a 2 pass, and be done, but I'm not in it for the BBS, just for irritation free. If the BBS comes with that, so be it, but it isn't the end goal. Keep on working the technique and I can promise you that you will no longer want to use anything else besides an SE! When I made the switch, and thankfully wchnu I was able to learn good technique first and foremost.

Thanks for the feedback. I only have my gem 1912 razor or else i would be more active. I aim to hunt down a few more SEs to expand my knowledge a bit. BBS is a chase that I have left behind. It only led to irritation. Im happy with a DFS any day.
