Ok here is the short version.... WOW what a brush. This thing is as tough as a boar and soft as a badger. I have used it to lather Williams and Colgate soaps so far. Will run it by a cream tomorrow. Even though not broke in it is a great lather maker. I will admit that it is a funky thing still. Worse to me then boar. I am sure it will work out of that. I am not the best at reviews. SO just let me say that I am impressed with this one so far. For $18.00 it works much better then it's price would suggest. Fuzzy

Not too big for face lathering? I face lather.
The reason I ask is that I like small brushes and I know little of Horsehair brushes.
My boars and badgers are a max of about 45mm loft (1 exception) and that Horse Pro is significantly larger.
I wouldn't mind trying a horse and I know they make smaller lofts, so I'm trying to learn what I can.

It works good for me. I have a few big loft brushes that I use to face lather with. A Dubl Duck #5 and an Omega #48. This one is better then those so far. If you don't like a hi loft I would say get a different model, but I would suggest you get one. Love the feel of this thing.

Here is a picture of it with a few other brushes I have. The Dubl Duck is the tallest then I put the AOS Badger in and a VDH to show size.

I am glad to see this horse hair brush is working well for you. It sounds like it stays pretty firm if you are doing hard soaps and face lathering. Does it have strong backbone like a stiff boar? I prefer a firm brush myself and find most badgers too floppy for my liking.
Funky too eh? I kind of miss my stinky boar brush smell actually - maybe I would like funky!!

It is not as stiff as a boar. But stiffer then a badger. A nice happy medium.

I've got a vie long horsey too. Only got a small one in a custom handle. But it's a great brush. Being horse hair it's cut hair so I find the tips a little scritchy, but that's great for picking up soap anyway. It's a small brush but holds heaps of lather, and picks up and holds tabac better than any boar or badger brush I have. It is a nice happy medium between them. More backbone than most badgers, holds more lather than most boars. I placed an order for a $15 undyed small 19mm brush in a plain handle that was out of stock with their supplier, but they put that knot I ordered in the first handle shown on this page www.vielong.com/En/Brochas6.html13061 Pelo Caballo

I have not found mine to be scritchy at all. It feels a lot like badger on my face. I have also noticed it does not need to be soaked as long ss a boar to hold water.
You are right about holding lather. This thing is great at that.

I am happy to report that I can no longer smell the funky smell on the brush. I used PC tallow soap this morning and the lather was great. The scent was wild wild west with no horse hair funk mixed in. Not bad at all.
