It's only been two shaves, but so far I'm a big fan. While it's too early to make any final proclamations, this razor has been the mildest SE I've used to date. It has decent efficiency but also feels almost incapable of biting...even after some hot-dogging with some ATG in some sensitive areas. I managed both shaves without a single weeper or any hint of irritation. Both shaves were with well-worn blades, so I'll be trying it out with some newer steel to see if that changes anything. Here is a collage of what is turning into an absolute favorite razor, and a real candidate as a daily shaver.

Boy oh boy do I like it when they sing! If tomorrow wasn't Shovel Head Tuesday, this would be a good one for Tuesday

It is a safety razor. Almost incapable of biting is a good thing. With a sharp blade you may increase your decent efficiency. I really like my Jr. Bar and my Gem Jr. Lather catchers rule.

Those are just super razors. I have several. If I do not get called in to work tomorrow on no notice..like they did today... I might just bust out a junior bar shave.

Fuzzy hooked me up with my first Gem Jr. lather catcher. I made a wooden handle for it. Then last year I finally got a Junior Bar. Again, I prefer the wooden handles on these machines. Very nice (twice)!!! While I've only got 2 shaves on mine -- once with metal (a volunteer handle from my Kampfe Bros) and once with a wooden handle -- my preference is definitely wood. I've waxed-on about how much I love wood, so it's a preference in general with most items, but the warmth, weight and look just can't be beat as far as I'm concerned. If I had your skills, I'd be following in your footsteps with handles (brushes and razors), boxes and even making my own wooden razor...that OC razor you made sir, is extremely cool!!!

So it's not magic, but it's still a great razor. As you can tell from my SOTD ( see here), I put the Jr. Bar to the ultimate test, a brand spanking new Gem SS PTFE blade. Every 1st shave with that blade has, without fail, left me with some post-shave irritation. Folks have spoken of corking (which I hesitate to even mention) or using a milder razor to lessen the irritation, or the most popular idea, use a different blade (usually Carbon Steel). Since I like shaves 2 thru 10 on the SS PTFE, I figured I'd give the Jr. Bar a shot at it. As the first sentence suggests, I did not come away irritation-free, but I will say that I thought I had during the shave. I did 3 passes and a slight witch hazel touch-up, and during the shave I would've sworn that everything was jake (a little yesteryear slang). But after the post-shave shower, I looked in the mirror and noticed the now familiar redness on the trickiest/most sensitive area of my neck. i had a good lather, great razor and was careful with my technique, but nothing seems to overcome the harsh reality of the first shave with this blade. The upside of the sharp blade was a truly close shave, the closest I've gotten to date with the Jr. Bar; and between the post-shave effects of the soap, and the restorative properties of my after shave (Krampert's Finest Bay Rum), my face was feeling fine and looked nearly-irritation free after about an hour. "Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life".....an appropriate line from the operetta "Naughty Marietta, which opened on Broadway on November 7, 1910 -- perhaps more than a few audience and cast members had a pre-show shave using this amazing razor....I know I would have.

Sounds like you did great. Typical first shave with the SS blade. jayaruh will probably post his belly stropping video if you keep talking about corking.....

One of the only GEMS I am still missing. Hard to find a nice one out there! Enjoy it.

My position is, if you can't find a "nice" one, then get whatever you can until you find the "nice" one. Then you can pass the not-so-nice one along.
