I'd like to thank the eBay seller for putting a bunch of rusty blades in the foreground of his main image: I'm sure the winning bid would have been higher without them. So I won an early 1900s GEM/Zinn lather catcher in fairly dirty, but hopefully in salvageable condition. Not sure how unusual or rare it is, but the mechanism looks cool. August Scheuber I believe. Z for Zinn: I can see blade-stops: Ooooo! I likey that. very cooool.

Not bad for the price. It's soaking. A B1 I believe?

The GEM style blade is probably beyond hope

So it was you, good catch. Hope it cleans up. Did you realise that this was for two razors? I completely overlooked this late addition to the auction: So, I received (along with two rusty blades, and a stropping attachment): OK, the one on the left will be a bit more work. Still, I'm quite happy. Two for the price of one.

Preliminary cleaning is very promising. They are currently soaking again. Autosol treatment tomorrow. The mechanism on both is sound and smooth. Both will take modern GEM blades. The hardest task will be to remove the rusty wedge blade from the stropper.
