I have been looking for blades to use in a GEM 1912. Is there a lot of options? You have options. Greet and Pal make carbon steel blades. Gem and Personna make stainless steel blades. Those are the modern production ones. I would shy away from the vintage ones as they tend to be rather harsh . Andrew, a member here sells them in his Etsy shop, and most of us by directly from him as shipping is fast, and he always does us right. If you have a CVS or Walgreens near you, you can pick up blades from there. Make sure they are shaving blades, not paint scraper blades. They are GEM blades afaik. Ask Flintstone what happens when you use paint scraper blades.

Also. If you have a CVS store by you they have SE blades. I also find Grm blades in small mom and pop pharmacies.

I have been looking for blades to use in a GEM 1912. Is there a lot of options? I prefer carbon steel. I have some treets around. Pop me an address in a PM and I can get you started!

GEM makes carbon steel blades also. If I remember correctly they are found in CVS.

Thanks ordinaryshaver! I am just making sure I do not use a paint scraper blade! So what happened to @flintstone? Yes, not to disparage a vendor, but I used a site called TryABlade and picked up 4 blades to try. They were listed with these names, but I'm not sure if their provenance was correct: Gem Carbon, Gem Stainless, Gem Stainless Steel PTFE, and Pal Blue Carbon. The first 2 in the list (at least the ones I got) were not shaving blades, but rather only for industrial use. This forum (and the massive amount of irritation I received) helped me figure that out . I've used and continue to use 3 blades with great success: - Treet Carbon Blades -- haven't tried the "Greet" ones yet (I'm just picking on ordinaryshaver ....his typos are legendary, but that's only because he's very responsive. We all have our crosses to bear, mine is that I'm verbose, some might say loquacious -- and I like big words ). These are smooth shaving right out of the wrapper, but I don't feel like they last as long as my second blade. Some are put-off by the carbon, which means they will rust (quickly) if you don't dry them when you're done.
- GEM Stainless Steel (PTFE coated). Very sharp, but I find the first shave (and sometimes 2nd) harsh and apt to produce some mild irritation if I'm not very careful. Several folks have different methods for "taming" the blade before the first shave, I tend to just use a milder razor (usually my GEM Featherweight) versus something more aggressive. The shave itself seems to strop/calm the blade edge with the remaining shaves being very nice, and I've found this blade to be pretty long-lived.
- Pal Carbon (Blue Blades). I've only been able to try one of these, but it cuts as well and as smoothly as the Treets. They seem hard to come by (at least for me) as I haven't found a source for them.
I hope that helps. If you do accidentally use an industrial blade (i.e., made for a scraper), it's not the end of the world....I still have skin on my face; but it's not an experience I'm anxious to re-live.
Welcome to the forum!!! Keep on posting and asking questions, this is both a knowledgeable and friendly place!

Fred, I use the GEM SS ptfe blades in a milder razor for the first few shaves also. I find that CS blades to be good from the first shave to the last. FWIW, I have gotten over 30 shaves from one SS ptfe blade, not as a rule, but frequently enough that I can mention it. Sometimes I just change the blade out of boredom. The CS blades? Not so many, and I'm one of those who simply won't dry off the blade when the shave is over. I am definitely spoiled by SS blades.

I suppose when you have an accent on the thicker side, voice to text ain't always the best. It works o.k. for the most part, but sometimes it just goes hay wire!
