I have been looking for blades to use in a GEM 1912. Is there a lot of options? I prefer carbon steel. I have some treets around. Pop me an address in a PM and I can get you started! I finally bought some stainless. Up to this point I've only used the carbon steel from CVS. They take a bit more care post shave to keep the rust away, but dayum, they are samoooth. I'm gonna have to get off my core kick long enough to try the stainless blades in my Gem and see how they compare for me vs the carbon.

Many uninformed shavers see "Industrial" in the description for single edge razor blades and make the automatic assumption that they are unusable for shaving, crap blades and only suitable for paint scraping.
Single or double facet single edge blades do not shave well. Many have a .012" thickness and have an "Industrial" description. These are the utility blades used for paint scraping.
Single edge blades suitable for shaving need to have a 3 facet bevel edge. All the blades I have seen have a .009" thickness. It doesn't matter that the word "Industrial" is in the description if it meets the requirements above. They will shave, just like the five pack of blades you pick up in your CVS.

GEM style SE blades originally were designed for shaving over 100 years ago and then found their way into many other areas, in industrial, medical and laboratory use. I bought a 100 pack dispenser of 3 facet GEM Carbon Steel blades for cheap last year that are called "GEM Scientific" in Accutec's catalog. They are the same blade as all the other 3 facet CS blades made by Accutec, marketed under the other old ASR trademarks but some people swear they feel a difference between the different brands for whatever reason.😏

Well I went today to pick up more Gem CS Blades. The last place I go stopped carrying them😭. I will have to start scouring CVS stores. They have blades but are almost always out.

I think walgreens has them to order and pick up in store. I guess a accutech bulk group buy will come up soon. I think the store I get treets from is still selling them.

I use SS coated blades and get about 7 shaves--I do 3 passes on face and head daily. That equates to about 21 shaves for non head shavers. I have used carbon steel blade, they don't last as long for me- your mileage may vary..
