I have heard, and possibly read (can't remember) that rinsing out the soap after the shave is more of a more recent idea. Originally from the way I understood it was after a shave most folks just put the brush up to dry.
So, I will be giving that a try here for a while to see if I can see any difference. What do y'all think? Would it make much of a difference between badger, boar, horse or synthetic?
Interested in hearing y'all's thoughts .

I have a NOS Ever Ready brush that came with an info leaflet. It was early 1940s I believe as it advertises a Clog Pruff. In it it says soap to a brush is like rust to metal, or something like that, and to thoroughly rinse the soap. I will look it out and take picture to post here when I get a chance

My granddad did not rinse his brush out. You can tell. The brush should stay in better shape if rinsed.

Here is what you end up with if you don't rinse your brush. I am careful to rinse my brushes, towel dry, and let them dry with the hairs pointing up.

Yeah, I can't imagine not rinsing and towel drying my brush -- and I'm a synth only guy; but I'm also the guy who usually uses a touch of Dawn on my brushes after the shave to make sure the tallow-based soaps and the various scents are not left behind on the bristles. I'm pretty obsessive with my equipment....wash, rinse, towel dry razor, blades, brushes and basin -- kind of a freak that way.

I always rinsed and dried my brush, however, since moving here in the desert I rinse well, shake it lightly, then hang it up in its stand. Its completely dry in an hour.

I rinse, don't towel dry. I'm not concerned about build up as I rinse pretty well. I did see an old "How to Shave" brochure by Gillette on another forum that said rinsing the brush was not needed but you could if you wanted to. Back then folks only had one brush and were trying to save soap so it made sense to leave it in.
I'll bet VERY few of us actually shave like "grandad". Using one razor, one brush, one soap, one blade until one of them actually ran out or needed replacing.

I always rinse thoroughly and dry, then place bristles up to air dry. Even synthetics, but that's out of habit more than need.

There are adamant supporters of both sides. I don't think it matters. I don't have a brush holder so it sits on its handle - and it likes it.

I always rinse well and shake out well. I have purchased old brushes to repurpose and most had a mountain of old soap in the knot---probably 'cause of not rinsing. I do not dry and set all in the up position on their handle----have many brushes 20-25 years old, daily drivers, and they all have been treated same from day one. I have three that require a brush holder because of handle type, the rest line shelves in my den.
